vendor The Hippy Seed Company

Has anyone grown seeds from the Hippy seed company? I got a zero germination rate. Does customs irriadiate? Has anyone else ordered from THSC?

1 x Butch T Trinidad Scorpion (10 seeds per pack)
1 x TS Morouga Blend

1 x Douglah

1 x Orange Trinidad Scorpion

I've been ordering from them for years and never had a problem. You are growing all super hots which take an extremely long time to germinate. Do you use a seedling heat pad? How long have they been in the soil?

This topic should be in vendor vault...anyway, never anything but great things heard about them. Seriously doubt that the seeds are the issue.

+1
Proper temp, time, and moisture in a good germination medium at the right depth and they (or most anyway) should pop. Optimal germ temp is between 80 and 85 degrees and will get you the fastest results. Too far below will cause them to not germ too far above and they could cook and sterilize.

mine were great this year, they were a little lower, especially the chocolate bhuts than some seeds bought from in the States, but I'm pretty sure the chocolate bhuts were just a super slow batch and some of them were eaten by fungus gnats in the mean time, and maybe just the temps in the plane just slows them down a bit while germinating, but yeah I would check your seeds and see if they are empty.. which would be fungus gnats

It is possible that something you have done has gone wrong and cooked your seeds or something like that.

Hippy seed company are widely regarded among the chili community for their quality seeds and even from a poor seller with the poorest quality seeds you would expect to see a few out of 40 seeds come through in a month, though as was said before - super hots do take a long time to germinate.

i have not used them to germ seeds. i have used them in my hydro plants though, i sprout all my seeds in solo cups and soil(shunshine grower mix#4) and after 2-3 set of leaves i pull them out rince soil off roots and put in the rapid rooter. i bought a heating mat and found that i get better germ rates not using it and just leaving thesolo cups next to a window that gets afternoon sun and stay consistant as far as temps go. i persoanlly have never ordered from them but if you are getting 0 germ rate then i go with its an error on your part somewhere in your process. i planted 24 seeds(from various people here) and every single one germinated.

My first order from the Hippies was crushed in the mail, my second suffered a similar fate but I did get 4 BTs out of 10 to grow. Australia has some of the strictest export laws, they have to ship in regular envelopes or suffer loads of paperwork and documentation, At least this is the explanation Neil gave me.

I went 10 for 10 on the Douglahs and 0/10 on the yellow 7s I ordered this year from them. I know they are popular, but I may pass on using them in the future.

Also, This post should be in the vendor vault so others looking for recommendations can see it. I would talk to the boss about merging it with the post that is already there.

I had a terrible germ rate with them this year , got hold of them on their FB as per Luke's suggestion and they were very quick to replace. Heard several growers complaining or not having success this year but as mentioned they make good on their product and my replacements are in transit now. Great people it must have been a few bad batches in error which happens. On the down side I REALLY wanted to grow Fatalis this year but to late now and will wait till next year. All in all it's a bummer but shite happens

Has anyone used rapid rooters on superhots?

I am using them now and out of a 72 tray flat only 4 didn't make it... but i put the seeds on top of a 3 layer coffee filter in a small tupperware plastic container and let them sprout then i take the sprouts and put them into the rapid rooters .. one thing for sure they can dry out rather quick so make sure that dose not happen or you could loose your entire crop.
