In indonesia and Malaysia, they use a variety of chili pepper which is called "Cabe merah besar" or "Big red chili". It's usually 5-8 inches long, red, glossy and about as big around as a grown man's thumb, maybe a bit bigger.
I can't find these peppers because "big red chili" is a bit too vague. The closest thing I've found is Cayenne or Fireflame.
