Doomus's 2014 Closet-GLOG

Hey everyone, this'll be my first glog. I'm starting my babies in a dorm closet like I always do but I hope to give them a big yard to grow in by the summer. We'll see!

Anyway I planted the seeds yesterday night after getting back from spring break. (3/16/14)

From right to left: Red Savina (Pex), Peter Pepper (Judy), Poblano (NuMex), Fatalii (Judy), Brain Strain 7 (Pex), 2xTepin X Aji Limon (smileyguy697), 2xMoA Bonnets (Steve954), and UbaTuba (NuMex).

It's a weird bunch, but I'm still experimenting with what pods I really like so I figured I'd grow some of the favorites.

I'm growing under a 400W HPS for now, roughly 2' from the tops of the cups. Watering til moist. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do with nutrients at this point, but I'm thinking Fox Farms liquid ferts and CalMag+ in small doses with every watering. Concentrations to come once I do some math.

For now, I'll leave with a picture of the heavenly glow coming from under my dorm door...

Happy 2014 grow season everyone!

10 little friends have poked their heads above soil!

Poblano 1/4
Tepin X Aji Limon 2/8
MoA Bonnets 5/8
Bishop's Crown 2/8

The rest are 0/4 so far. Soon!

The furthest along is a Tepin X Aji Limon cross. You can see the first true leaf node emerging already!

Repotted six of my little buddes! Four MoA bonnets, two Bishop's crown. Watered with a 25% fertilizer mix. (Fox Farms Grow Big, Big Bloom, CalMag+)

The second picture has a story:

I was working on an electronics project near my ballast and noticed that it was really REALLY hot. The internal fan had pooped out (cheap Chinese piece of sh*t! that's what I get for buying the cheapest ballast out there!) and the entire thing was overheating. Good thing I caught it before the capacitors blew. Opening it up, the entire thing is coated in a thick rubber insulation. Maybe it's a cheap weatherproofing, maybe it's on there to make it heat up and die faster so you buy another. It's not removable.

I shorted the power pin on a computer PSU and jury rigged a fan to the top. The ballast is now running cool as a cucumber.

BS7 and Red Savina sprouted, no word on Fatalii or Peter Pepper.

RS had three cots. It's a first for me, dunno how rare it is.

Well folks here's another update. Word 'round the dorm campfire is that the Fire Marshall is coming to town and that he's a dick. As such, I have to keep my HPS lamp stowed neatly away during business hours. Can't risk losing it til summer.

So now my babies are chilling on the windowsill for a week. They shouldn't loose too much growth time. They've shot up super fast since they sprouted so I think it'll be fine.

In other news, the one BrainStrain7 that sprouted is acting funny. The cotyledons are dead but the plant's still hanging on. You can't see in the picture, but I think some feeble little true leaves are trying to make their way to the surface. I hope the poor bugger makes it, even if he doesn't produce pods this summer.

Last, I finally got a Peter Pepper to sprout. Woo! It's an annuum, so it shouldn't have too much trouble catching up to its big brothers and sisters.
