Unknown species from Kerala, Southern India

The pods were collected in a market in Kerala, in Southern india. Pods were small and red, similar to either frutescens or some birdseye annums.

These are what the seeds produced. Anyone hazard a guess on the species??? To me, it looks like a C.frutescens, but I don`t really know.

Sounds like you are describing what is often called "Kanthari" which is C. frutescens. There are pale/white ripening orange to red varieties as well as green to red types.

I would agree that its a C. frutescens but I will leave it to the others to give it a name. I can bet that it is a real producer.

Have you tasted the dry pods?
Yes, I have. They are pretty hot, without being overwhelming, fruity and a little sweet. I also compared them to dried small Thai peppers. Heat is about the same, but the Indian ones are sweeter. Other than that, I`m not convinced I can tell a small dried annuum from a small dried frutescens reliably,
