Hot Pepper Ice Cream

Jenny's Ice Cream in the North Market in Columbus, OH sells hot pepper ice cream and sorbets, amongst other varieties. Their hot pepper pear sorbet is quite tasty.

I am not a huge ice cream fan, but do make a good sorbet from time to time. When I don't want to bother making it, though, I will buy some and let it soften, then mix in hot pepper powder and possibly other things before refreezing. It's a good alternative when you're feeling lazy.

What a cool idea (pun intended) next trip to the grocery store I'm picking up some mango sorbet and working in some habanero powder

Peppers in Rehoboth owns an ice cream stand that sells Scorpion ice cream.  I had some, it really messed with my head.  You get the sweet then cold, then hot, then cold, then really hot.  Freaky.  Really good, but freaky.

I've got some paper lanterns coming in late after I've already made the relishes and jellies I wanted them for.  I am planning to get out the ice cream machine and make habanero-vanilla and habanero-dark chocolate ice cream and habanero-pineapple sorbet.

Let us know how it turns out.

Sometimes I mix some of my Peach - Habanero jam with my ice cream and it is very tasty !
Care to share the recipe.

I recently tried sprinkling cayenne powder over chocolate ice cream.  I really enjoyed it.  It was a unique sensation, simultaneously hot and cold in taste. I plan to explore this further.

I have had cayenne with chocolate several times, often in hot chocolate.   Any thoughts on which peppers would go best with chocolate?

I would do a yellow Indian curry and some hot pepper powder with a vanilla base. Curry ice cream is wonderfully good. Gotta make it sweet, but those Indian spices work so well.

This stuff is pretty bangin
(Not sure if they make more flavors or not; my wife grabbed this for me a while back)

Fruity hot sauces are fantastic on ice cream. We've got a home made Blackberry/Ghost sauce that we like to pour over vanilla ice cream.  It's also a good way to introduce people into supers because it's mellowed by the ice cream.  I've never actually included it in the ice cream making process.
