favorite Favorite Thai Varieties

My first pepper I ever grew was a very small little thai type. It was less than a foot tall, but produced many many pods. I had no idea how to grow then, but it still gave me peppers for over a year before it gave out, or perhaps died from lack of nutrients. I have learned these are some of the easiest to grow, and some of the best producers. I can't speak for all Thai varieties, but only from what I have observed. I am sure there might be a few that are not so easy to grow. So what are your favorite Thai varieties? I am interested in the Orange Thai, Thai Sun Chili and others. What other types are really nice?

Mmmmm Thai peppers :)

Prik kee noo suan/ Prik Kee Nu / Prik ki nu  (spelled various different ways). The 'Rat Turd' chili. Used to be able to get them and an unknown variety at the local Mexican grocery (of all places...but has since closed down) for about 2$ for a 1.5lb. bag. Lots of heat and flavor/very aromatic- exceptional when dried. Never saved seed as they were always in abundance. Have read many great things about the 'orange' variety, never had the chance to try them though.

edit:- that above pic is AWESOME!

Thanks for this awesome pic! Helps me to see what other types are out there. Your Sun Thai looks differently than the one I have been looking at. Puckerbutt sells this one:

I thought this one looked pretty bad a$$. I picked up some seeds of this, besides a few others. Hope it tastes as good as it looks.

Yeah some call them Thai Sun, Thai Hot and many other things. I started growing them in 95 and they were called Thai Sun by the Thai lady that gave them to me so I stuck with it :)

You just jogged my memory. I do believe this pepper was the first pepper I ever grew. It was called Thai Hot, and had peppers those size. I have not had them in quite a while, but I remember them having a nice bit of heat to them. This was before I had ever tried a superhot, and most types did not even exist then.

Out of the ones in your pic, which ones do you like the most flavor wise?

I love the Thai Orange

I always keep a couple Dragons, if sometimes just for color on a window sill.

Even in a little flower pot, a few fresh pods every week mostly year round.

The Thai Orange chili is sweet and fruity, I would estimate SHU at around 15k  It is easily the best tasting Thai chili I have ever had.  I dont know much about origin, only it came from Thailand.

The Thai White eventually ripens to red, it is white for the great majority of growing though.  Estimate SHU at around 80k-100k

Nice peppers buzzman! That white Thai looks great! Small plant full of peppers :) like it! hehe

I love my Thai hot yellow! First time growing them and seems to trow out peppers much earlier than my other strains! And with a decent heat in them it cant go wrong :)
