Get paper clips and bend into hooks.

Thanks Bunny Man, I love the meathook hack. Y'all joke all you want, but I am gonna make some badass oven jerky this winter using the meathook hack. Sheeit I'm going to office depod tomorrow an buying the CORPORATE SIZE box of clips.

Now it's just waiting for the people that use plastified paperclips. It would give a hell of a smoke flavor though, but I doubt plastic tastes better than pecan.

Na, but serious.. It's a good idea, but most ones are galvanized, nickled or coated with cheap chinese chrome (hexchrome). Zinc and Chrome can be very bad for your health, and nickle can cause severe allergic reaction to some people.

Some meat hooks cost you 50cts each (stainless) and last you a lifetime..

Sorry for the preaching, spent to much time in a laboratory.. It's not really the metal coating that is the issue, but you have quality (=safe) coatings and cheap plating. I doubt paperclips are foodgrade.
 
We're talking about like 1/16" of contact per piece, probably at too low of a temperature to cause, well, anything to happen ...
 
But, still ...
