First Chilis

So a HUGE shoutout to HolyP for hooking me up with a huge array of Chilis. Took at least 200 seeds out of a variety of superhots. Took the remaining parts of the
peppers and made an evil Powder using my toaster oven :D

The powder is a mix of 7 Pot Primos, Naga Vipers, Bhuts, Butch Ts, Fataliis, Chocolate Habs, Reapers, Brainstrain Red/Yellow, Scotch Bonnets, and some thai chilis

Dude, that tray. :(

You will have lost some heat to the fat in the crud on the tray itself but still looks good. Next time use some tin-foil.

Does it have a chinense soapy taste? Have you added any other spices? I like to mix in chiltepins or another smokey pepper to carry a good flavour.

I dry mine in a dehydrator rather than using an oven of any type as I can control the heat better and the flavor is less harsh, but you can use just about any method to get the job done. I deseed and destem my pods also,  so that I don't get any woody or off flavors, this year I  smoked a big batch of mixed pods before drying them the powder I made from them tasted very nice and will help to make a good rub.   The other I separated and made a batch of powder from each of the varieties so that I could taste what each variety tasted like,  so I could add them to different things like chili oil and flaming hot citrus salt.

I think Primos are pretty good, but I think I like the yellow Brain Strain better flavor wise when dried,  I haven't tried the yellow primo yet, but plan to give it a shot in 2016 as 2015 is my wild grow. I will have a lot of fun deseeding the small pods so that I still have something left of the dried pods, that is the pods that I can do that with, some of the wild species have very small pods to start off with and when dried are quite tiny, its very hard to deseed them and still have anything left to make a powder from.  Some Of the Chocolate varieties taste much better when they are smoked and then dried to make a powder from.
This year I didn't have too many varieties so I just mixed what I had and it turned out pretty good.

That's funny...I have both the yellow primo and yellow brain strain going right now!  Maybe this summer I'll try to smoke the pods before I make powder out of them...mmm.  I've never tried either variety so I hope they're good.
