Thanks for the info Jamison.  I looked up "Don't Bug Me" and it appears to be pyrethrin based.  I was originally using a pyrethrin spray and agree that it is more effective than insecticidal soap, however I think I may have over did it as it really made a mess of the new growth.  So I backed off for a while and the new growth was looking healthier, then I gave insecticidal soap a shot and overdid it too and messed up the new growth again...

I'll stick to hand-picking the aphids for the next week or two and re-evaluate the situation.  The aphids can't possibly do more harm to the plants than I am...

Two more hooks last night and another two this morning which means 10 out of 24 varieties from round two are up.  Also forgot to mention that the second sowing of the Moruga yellow from round 1 is up too - anyone care to guess how long it takes me to kill this one?

Well a lot of the plants from round one look like ass. They have hardly grown in the past 10 day, leaves are yellowing and falling off - classic signs of overwatering.

It's had me scratching my head, since haven't watered them in about 5 days, and they only got about a tablespoon when I last watered them.

But it think I've figured out the problem (fingers crossed...). The layer of vermiculite/perlite that I had put on the top of the cups to deter both fungus gnats and damping off had formed a hard crust where it met the potting soil underneath and was acting like a mulch, trapping in moisture. Some of the roots had started to turn brown (one advantage of the clear cups is that this can be spotted fairly quickly).

So I scraped it off and replaced it with a fresh layer of soil. Wish me luck.

Oops, over two weeks since my last update - I guess I'm spending too much time reading other people's glogs...

Here are the overwinters, still fighting the aphids on these, don't think I'm ever going to eliminate them. New growth is coming on all of the plants but a lot of it looks like crap. The Douglah is the best of the bunch and is getting a lot of buds.

The first round of plants are recovering from the overwatering and the new growth is looking a lot healthier.

The second round of plants are mostly doing great, however three varieties are no shows and I lost the Fatalii Orange. I will re sow all of these soon.

First flowers of the season, silly little plant thinks it's all grown up already.

I must say I am liking the LED fixture that I bought, the plants stay really short and stocky without needing a fan.

Been slacking on updating the glog...

Here is an updated list - round 3 was started last weekend, it consists of the four varieties from round two that I didn't have any luck with, plus 8 new varieties from jcw10tc. I actually received many more great varieties from jtc10tc but I just don't have the room for them. Got a great head start for next year though! A few have started popping already.

Also got my orange thai seeds in the dirt for the throw down.

Here's a group shot. A few are yellowing a bit, I will be moving them to larger containers this week with better soil, hopefully that will help.
