is fish emulsion still viable ?

curious , has any of my fellow chili heads have any fish emulsion left over from a previous year and used it the following year ? i got  3/4 of a container left over from last year , been in the grow room in the house since last start season . is it safe and or still good to use ? a friend said it needed to be refrigerated but i don't see anything on storage directions . thanx !      :onfire:
 
I was trying to figure that out just this week myself.  I have probably 80%+ of a bottle still.  Been at bottom of very cold refrigerator since last year.  I was going to just go with it.  That stuff on the shelves in the stores sometimes looks like its already been there for years.
 
if you have like 80% of a bottle that you're leary of using if it's old, maybe cut it in some five gallons of water and spread it on a raised bed during the off season...
 
It should be good regardless, IMO.  I use fish waste pretty often, as you can guess...I've never let it sit long enough to "go bad" ...if it even does.
 
Maybe you can send an email to the manufacturer and see what they say?
 
It will be fine, but I agree with the other post that said it's best to keep it in a cool dark place though, as I used to use the Alaska brand fish emulsion for my peppers and tomatoes with good results
 
Once the fertilizer is in the soil, it decays/ferments anyway.

If it fermented in the container, it might generate ammonia, which can raise the pH, create anaerobic conditions, and harm roots. If it actually stinks that bad, you can probably still use it after pH is adjusted.
Adding the usual amount to a handful of dry peat, THEN adding to water can buffer the ammonia nicely while ensuring that it is easily absorbed by plants. Just don't leave the mixed solution overnight, or it will raise a stench -- and, again, harm the roots.
