So, I have officially decided to continue my time lapse hobby showing how wonderful and responsive chili plants are. My new grow set up is unable to permit the same style time lapsing as before. So some changes will have to be made - some resources will have to be gained. I will update this in 1-2 weeks with the seasons first lapse.

   Cool! I remember referring someone to your time-lapse last year when I was trying to explain to someone why it's important to give plants a rest from light every day. I couldn't remember your username, so I had a hard time, though. Thanks for starting a thread to display them!
Ha no problem, I have a quality setup I can time lapse the whole season in this year

Second Time Lapse here, and boy are they dancing up a storm! The "night" cycle has a low wattage 2700k LED bulb to keep it illuminated for filming.

And the honey moon time lapse is here - more than one plant tried to die while some of them, including hydro decided to thrive! They need new nutes now though but here is peppers attended for 2 days and left alone for 5 (almost 6 days) and recorded.

Personally I put the plants about a half inch above the water so that the roots find the water instead of being forced into the water. I have not fully tested this, but it seems to avoid the plants being shocked too bad... I did have one plant that was placed with the tap root just barely touching water in the net cup and that one has been the slowest grower.

After transplanting to hydro expect a delay as the plants learn how to use their environment. After they settle in the growth speeds up very fast.

As far as starting water level I did have it about 5 inches from the top or just enough to wet the bottom pebbles in the net cup like you said. The water level I now have is 8 inches from the top which seems to encourage root growth (moving the water gradually lower).
This is really cool you should keep doing this I haven't seen it done before until now!
