How to pronounce datil?

I've lived in Fla my entire life, and I have never heard Datil pronounced duhtill once. It is always rhyming with that'll.

I've lived in Taxachusetts all my life and as many know we have our own unique dialect of the English language.> https://www.bu.edu/mfeldman/Boston/wicked.html

So spend a minute and pronounce Boston a few times.... This website has a few ways to correctly, and incorrectly, pronounce it.> http://www.worcestermass.com/pronounce/suffolkcounty.shtml  The way I pronounce it and what I generally hear is BAH-STIN as this video demonstrates.

The video has a hard T and emphasis on second syllable. It sounds a bit British or French. Hard T's are up to speaker imo, like in Clinton... (Clin tin) or (Clint in) or even more proper with the on not in sound.

But thegreenman has it. Add your hard T if you want, but the first syllable is usually emphasized.

Datil be all. :)

This is why the English language is such a pain in the ass.

mate - matter

1 t says we say the a like ay.

2 t's says we say the a like apple.

"Datil" looks like is should be said Day-till.

I don't know why, I am just making an observation. And I would have used these if I GAF. Or knew what they meant. LOL

Dātil ?

Hard T's are rarely used in American English FWIW.
butter, better

Do you say budder or buh'ter? Bedder or beh'ter?

Part of our American "accent" is that we lazified a lot of sounds.
