Scotch Bonnet MoA (Trident Chilies, John) - 3

Some new transplants today:

1 Red Habanero, my seed 4th gen.
1 Scorpion, my seed 5th gen.
1 Fatali, Pepper Joe 2016
1 Manzano, my seed 2015
 
Now at 24 plants.  Going to put the Choc. Habanero - RF - and BOC
seeds from Jason (GaGrowhead) in for a soak to fill in some
of the 8 spaces I have left for this part of the grow.  Worst case
scenario, I have some more room for nice annuums in the Spring,
and my grow shelf and greenhouse might not be quite so crowded   :D

Here's a rundown on the germination at the two week mark:

Those are cells, 30/54 that failed to produce a single hook, so right
off the bat, I am at a 44% rate, if every other seed hooked, which
they didn't.

The most dismal results since I started using the heating mat.  I don't know what the 
is, maybe the cold nights in the garage.  51/162 total germination rate is about 31%.
 
This is 26 plants if all survive to plant out.  Going to try to start some of
the Chocolate Habanero from RF and BOC from Jason - tonight into the soak.
 
edit 1/15 - another Scorpion hook today
edit 1/17 - one BOC hook today.  Some seeds have germinated in the Jiffy Pellets
after transplanting.  After a count this morning the results updated in the 
chart above.  60/162 = 37% 17 days after sowing.  Later same day, another
BOC hook has emerged 61/162...
edit 1/18 - one more MoA today... 62/162

I see that, I don't know what the problem is.  I do know my server space is maxed out,
maybe that's the problem.  Sorry, I can't even see some of the pics myself!

Seems to bother the pubescens most of all. Just part
of their preference for cooler weather, I guess.
 
Your post above was not there when I last posted. I too have dismal results when I use a heat mat (set to 80°), it may well have been the issue last season. I seem to do better just leaving them on the kitchen table until they hook. It may take 2 weeks, but I'm seeing better results..just my experience ;)

Since using the heating mat, my germination rates have
been around 80 and 90 percent.  I must have kept them too
moist or something, but it puzzles me that some did well
right next to others that didn't in the same tray.  Oh well,
I've got enough plants to fret over    :crazy:

really been above freeing since it snowed.  The warming trend is supposed to come Sunday/Monday,
although today is beautiful and sunny.  And cold!

My germination rates this season are miserable. 
 
What has sprouted looks promising, and I'll give it the rest another week.
Going to restart some BOC, though, 2nd generation from 2013/14,
from some seed GeorgiaGrowhead sent me awhile back.  Maybe a
Chocolate Habanero, too, also from Jason.  But, I digress   ;)
 
Have put the Manzano / Rocoto sprouts under the cooler lamp of the
AeroGarden.  I always forget they don't respond well to the T5HO
lamps until I finally notice it!  Will post a pic momentarily...

I am using T5's 6" about my sprouts.....everything looks excellent so far that has sprouted.
 
T5's are not the issue I expect...or do you mean the Manzano and Rocoto specifically?

Only the pubescens, Dan.  The chinense and annuums all seem to love the
T5HO lights.    The tips of the cotyledons turn brown for the Rocotos and
Manzanos and just look sort of peaked.  They look better already, 'perkier',
I guess, but once they get some true leaves, they should be good to go. 
 
In all, I'm a big fan of the T5's.

Okay, good to know....my manzanos and rocotos haven't popped yet. Will keep an eye out.

PDN x Bonda Ma Jacques, F2 - original seed from Tristen in 2014.  In case the F5 tanks, I can resurrect the line. 4cells, 5 seeds.
Bhut Orange Copenhagen - seed from Jason (GaGrowhead) in 2013. 4 cells, 12 seeds
Chocolate Habanero - seed from Refining Fire in 2013. 4 cells, 12 seeds
 
I know the seed is possibly dated, but I figure I have nothing to lose.
I really would like the F2's to come out just to have some back-up
for the single F5.  Need to contact Tristen and see if he had better
luck with the F5 seeds.

I had 6 sprouted Paul. Out of 7-8 planted... Lost a couple to my stupidity so have 4 growing now from your supplied seed. Also have 5 sprouted of the F3 from 2014 and 2 overwintered of the same stock. 2 of the 5 new f3s are green. All of the F5s are dark purple. We are having a very cool summer here in New Zealand though so not sure what type of production I am going to see

That's good news, Tristen!  At least there is a good
chance of some F6 seed in your grow.  I'm hoping
that my single plant is a robust and productive one!
 
Sounds like the F5 plants are growing true to form.  
My seedling is dark purple, also.  Good luck nurturing
those, my friend!
