Just checking in to wish you good luck for a great 2017!

A very refined list if I may say so, almost like the 'who's who' selection for what's hot in 2017!

Will be following with interest, cheers!

Thanks for noticing, Dennis   I am shying sway from crazy superhot crosses this season.
The Bhut Orange Copenhagen really the only 'superhot' in my list, I guess.  500,000 - 1,000,000
Scovilles is good enough for me                          :flamethrower:
Will be following with interest, cheers!

Are you as anxious for Spring as I am?  And it's s-o-o-o-o-o
far away   :mope:

Posting a few pics of some 7-day old seedlings just for fun.
I have Cabin Fever. Snow just beginning to melt. Must.  Get.  Out.

Updated Germination Data

Updated germination data:

Variety................................cells w/ sprouts...............germ rate

Scorpion pod 1.........................3...............................9/12  75%: seeds from three pods, one pod zero hooks - speaks to sowing variety.
Scorpion pod 2.........................1...............................1/9  11%
Scorpion pod 3.........................1...............................3/6   50%
Aji Amarillo...............................2................................6/12  50%
Aji Lemon Drop........................3................................9/9  100%
PDN x Bonda F5......................1................................1/18  6%: ouch, hope Tristen doing better - all the marbles riding on this one.
Fatali........................................3................................6/12  50%
MoA Bonnett...........................4.................................11/12  92%
JA Red Habanero CPI.............1.................................3/12  25%: again, good to plant more than one variety. my seed from two pods:
JA Red Habanero pod 1.........2..................................6/6  100%
JA Red Habanero pod 2.........0..................................0/6    0%
Rocoto....................................3..................................9/9  100%

BOC........................................2.................................3/9  33%
Aji Limo, peruvian seed..........0..................................0/9  0%
Cabe Gendot..........................0..................................0/9  0%

The most dismal results since I started using the heating mat.  I don't know what the
is, maybe the cold nights in the garage.  51/162 total germination rate is about 31%.

This is 26 plants if all survive to plant out.  Going to try to start some of
the Chocolate Habanero from RF and BOC from Jason - tonight into the soak.

edit 1/15 - another Scorpion hook today
edit 1/17 - one BOC hook today.  Some seeds have germinated in the Jiffy Pellets
after transplanting.  After a count this morning the results updated in the
chart above.  60/162 = 37% 17 days after sowing.  Later same day, another
BOC hook has emerged 61/162...
edit 1/18 - one more MoA today... 62/162
edit 1/19 - one Chili Pepper Institute Caribbean Red Habanero finally
came out...63/162 = 39% - 29 seedlings underway.
edit 1/21 - a few more hooks have emerged in transplanted Jiffy Pellets, many
of which have now germinated 3/3 seeds...Grand total 73/162 = 45%
after 3 weeks since sowing.
edit 1/23 - first hook out of the second round - one BOC 2013 from GaGrowhead.

All the cups thinned to one seedling each.

Finally had some time to catch up with some glogs. Good looking seedlings you have there! Gonna be some huge ones for sure. Loved your glog last year so gonna be following it again this year!

successful thinning, always good!
Those plant look really happy.
Best of luck!
Thanks, Jacques.  It always pains me to snip off
perfectly healthy seedlings.  I have rooted the cuttings
in the past, but it's really not worth with the effort, so
in the bin they go   ;)   Have to keep reminding self to
think about the benefits to the remaining seedling and
how much more value it now suddenly has!

Looking Good Paul! Fingers crossed...
Thanks, Rick - always, my friend!

BTW, to answer your question I'll scoop a couple of inches of soil out
of my containers and replace and amend the remainder  it with something
else in a month or so.  I have chosen the most resistant plants for seed
stock, and injected some new genes into the grow list.  Will try to minimize
contact between plants during indoor part of the grow.  Hopefully that
will help to minimize the BLS this Spring.  Plus, I'll be more vigilant   :eh:

Thanks for the kind words, Bernd, and thanks for
dropping in!

Depending on where you are at in Portugal, could
Spring be coming your way?

Here's  pic of the fan set-up; just started giving them a half hour
or so a day at the moment.  I have been amazed in the past how
fast they respond to the breeze by thickening up their stems.

BTW now have two new BOC seedlings - from GaGrowhead's
2013 seed.  Also two new sprouts in the F5 cup:

Looking good Paul! You're doing way better than me with your updates.

I too hate snipping a good plant. The alternative is to plant one seed which may or may not come up; so a snipping we go...

Yeah, tough to find the happy medium.  If I had unlimited space,
I'd just plant one seed per cell and be done with it.  I can see why
a lot of people germinate their seeds before putting them in the
dirt.  I haven't really tried hard enough to make that system work
for me

Well the Winters here are kinda like the Spring I'm used to back in the Netherlands, so I'm trying to wrap my head around it being actually Winter at the moment. The orange trees are having a lot of new growth and even small buds, but most trees that lose their leaves are still dormant. I guess Spring starts when the temps go up again, which is in about a month! It's mostly 13-16 C day time and 4-8 night time, although I had to move some old cayennes inside a few nights. We caught some northern winds and it was even freezing at night. Pretty nice climate for pepper growing, although I'm anxious for high summer, when temps can reach 40 C and above.

Setup is looking good!
