Dash in NM - 2017

Hello everyone. This is my first attempt at growing hot peppers. I have a lot to learn, but that's why I'm here. Sorry in advance for any potato-quality pics!

I started most oft these seeds in mid-February or early March. I'm hoping to plant outside on or near April 15. This first set of pictures was taken in early March. The seedlings are in a closet underneath a couple T5 bulbs. I'll post the seed types and counts later this evening.

Most of the seedlings are in cups now. I'm really hoping I can keep these alive for two more weeks. I've been putting the flats outside for an hour or two to try and harden them. I'll increase that time period this weekend, weather permitting. Here's a list of the types of plants I have growing this season:

Reaper
Moruga Scorpion
Choc Moruga
Choc Jolokia
Purple Jolokia
Scotch Freeport Orange
SB MOA
Scotch Brain
Choc 7 Pot
Aji Pineapple
Aji Lemon

NuMex Joe Parker
Bishop Crown
Aleppo
Orange Sweet

Hey Dash,

Welcome to THP. Your plants look really good. Nice pics. Some good varieties you've got. Great growth rate.

Good luck with your season.

Thanks for the welcome, Chuck. It's nice to be among so many experienced growers, and I'm humbled also. Good luck with your season too.

Thanks wiriwiri. I'm ready to get them outside and under some timed watering emitters... I wish the weather was ready! Good luck this season!

Hi everyone. These seedlings are looking nice, except where the leaves hit against each other in the airflow - they are getting pretty crowded in this small closet.

The last frost date here has passed, and these seedlings got two 10+ hour days outside this weekend, so I'm hopeful that they can go in the dirt next weekend. I'll keep hardening them in the meantime.

Looking very nice!

+1 #4 and good luck going forward to plant-out.
Should be happening about now, right?

Great looking plants! You obviously know what you're doing at this point. My only caution would be to be pretty ruthless with your hardening. It usually takes longer than one expects. It's a lot easier to bring a solo cup plant indoors on a windy or hot day than it is to replace one that was lost to the elements. It's especially important in a hot, dry, sunny climate. If your plants still need to come indoors at times and can't spend all day in the full sun, they're probably not ready.
Is that a pic of the Sandias in your avatar?

Thanks PaulG! Had I hardened off sooner, most of these plants could already be in the ground now. But since this is my first season growing peppers, I'm definitely behind where I'd hoped to be. No worries though, since learning is half the fun!

Thanks Hybrid_Mode_01! I'm really learning a lot from this project, and the guides/posts on THP have been invaluable.

I started hardening last week, and this weekend I had many of the seedlings in direct sun for between 6-8 hours. They started to wilt, so I put them under some shade and added some water to the cups that felt light. As you wrote, it's taking longer than I expected, but I plan to continue the caution as I'd rather get them in the ground later than not at all.

Those are the Sandias in my avatar, good eye!
