overwintering Would Alfalfa meal go bad if left out all winter?

I have a 5 gallon pail of alfalfa pellets that has been sitting out all winter. They are basically a thick mush from swelling and breaking apart. The whole pail smells rancid and definitely hasn't been agitated or aerated at all. Would it still be okay to used or should I toss it? I was thinking of mixing it up and straining out some of the water for my plants.

Oh that might me a great idea. I was planning on framing a compost area off for my lawn clippings this year, so I will save it to throw in the mix.

Putting the alfalfa in a compost area is a good idea. Or, if you plant in a garden, just dig a trench out of the way of your plants, dump the alfalfa, and cover with dirt. The microbes in the soil will thank you.

Okay I am building another raised bed for veggies. It will be 15 inches tall 4 feet wide 24 feet long. If I were to spread it at the very bottom of the bed before putting the rest of the dirt in there, would it be bad for everything? Sorry for the questions, I am stull trying to learn about microbes and what is good or bad.
