KAOS Glog - 2017

Welcome to the KAOS Glog 2017

I wasn’t going to do one this year, but thought what the hell. Some of my intrepid journey may be of interest to someone or at the very least a bit of entertainment for the Northern Hemisphere Chilliheads.

Since I’m playing a bit of catchup (started in April really) here is a quick summary of proceeding through to today.
NZ Season 2016 was dismal to say the least with a very short cold summer and it didn’t help starting late either.

Apologies for the image heavy first post

I decided 2017 was going to be a different and this would be a challenge against the winter elements.

Bring on the indoor grow brigade – 900mm x 400mm grow cabinet with grow LED

Now unfortunately being the gadget addict that I am I had to start experimenting with lights. The next photo is a humble cayenne that became the lab rat (aka Tarbal) over the next couple of months.

Remember Tarbal for later …

Once I’d proven (to myself anyway) that the LED thing actually worked I decided to soldier on with some actual proper peppers

A selection of Superhots – Ghost/Choc Bhut/Reaper…etc

Back to Tarbal now and roll on some 53 days from previous photo

My grow process is nothing new.
KNO3 for 24hrs
Coffee filter in Jiffy Bag until sprouting – Heatpad and mini greenhouse
Into Rockwool with a dab of soil - Heatpad and mini greenhouse
Wait until liftoff and into pots when first set of leaves are established

This was the start of the true growing period – Upgraded to 1.2m x 1.2m tent

Sideline to the grow this year is the Amarillo Growdown and here are some progress shots

Saturday Update.

Some plants in the garden have decided to die off. No idea why and that's with seemingly healthy plants in the same bed.

Aphids have also visited en mass, but slowly getting them under control...

Some general pics below

Soil Experiment (It worked superbly) - They are both White Hab plants. Experiment was to take the smaller of the two and try out a new soil mulch to see if it could catch up to the bigger one.
The pot volumes are about the same, but the test one is a hydro pot lined with breathable mat (aka grow bag). The mulch is a "live" lucerne mix that reacts as soon as you open the bag with oxygen. It then matures in the soil that you mix it with enriching the soil with nutient and all the good bugs and microbes that come with it. I used it as a 50/50 mix with some premium soil. Around 24hrs after opening the bag it was at a guess 35-40 degrees. Good stuff.

Looking fantastic!

Can't get over how quick those Ebony Fires have grown!

Might just be lighting in the pic, but is that Reaper pod Orange?

Great work, keep it up, all the best, TBG.

Oh my god those Chocolate Bhutlahs are going to burn your butt off. Those gnarly pods look like the chocolates I grew in 2015 that put blisters on my lips. Only pepper to ever give me chemical burns.
I know what you mean Trent. All in moderation I guess. Don't think I'd be able to handle a full pod :onfire:

Looking good KAOS!

good luck with the chocolate supers! I've never met one that didn't burn twice :onfire:
Thanks Devv. Burns three times if you burp after 30min.

Hey TBG. It's doesn't have its full colour yet, but the app I'm using for the photos uses the flash as a bulb and it's quite yellow so actual colour is a bit off.
Ebony fires are looking great. Do they go red when they ripe?

Been really slack keeping glog up to date. Mixed bag on progress with some plants just wilting and dying while others still growing beautifully. Only got a few weeks left before the dreaded frost comes in so hopefully a reasonable weekly harvest until then.

Here’s today’s offering- no idea what to do with them though.
