I have a sauce I make with candied Habanero, and winter squash(Specifically delicata) Cuts the sauce well, and compliments it too. Turns out a lot like a honey mustard.

Peppers taste the flamebow.

Listen..... I don't make the rules, lady! "The Dude ABIDES"
(I had to scroogle "DURIAN" ;) )

That's a wee baby one. My parents have a tree that produces fruit well over 40 lbs - and it tastes like juicy fruit!

Seriously?! That's awesome! I'll grab (a much smaller) one next time I'm at the store. I did pick up a dragon fruit though. First time for me. I'll probably eat it tomorrow :)

I'm honestly shocked there hasn't been any of the usual snark or condescension mixed in with the actual good information.

I've been there, man! :)

In all seriousness, I agree with everything salsalady and SmokenFire said. Cut it with Bells, carrots, onion, garlic, your fruit of choice, etc. Experimenting can be a lot of fun, and DON'T FORGET TO TAKE NOTES! It sucks to make an awesome sauce that you like and not be able to replicate it because you can't remember exactly what you put in it ;)

Let us know which road you took and how it came out!

I definitely will! I've got another month or so before my plants start fruiting, and then comes the fermentation process, but I'll def post back with some pics and results.

Dragon fruit are pretty pleasant. The wow factor is how they look though. They come in bright pink or white.

The jackfruit you eat the little clusters inside that look like as shown. The seeds can be boiled and eaten and are kinda starchy. We don't really bother with them though. 08426f0d130c26fe25e85733c9148789.jpg

I really appreciate the input and friendly responses. As someone whose go-to information-gathering strategy is to ask on forums dedicated to the subject, you guys are far and away the best. I'm honestly shocked there hasn't been any of the usual snark or condescension mixed in with the actual good information.

Cool! Looking forward to see what you come up with. Another thing worth noting: don't hesitate to do a trial run on peppers you can buy at the store, if you're nervous about trying fermenting for the first time with the pods you'll harvest! :)

I was expecting something along the lines of, "If you're asking that question, you shouldn't be making hot sauce."

That one's real popular elsewhere.

That's actually really good advice. I hadn't thought of that.

Isn't that like a student in driver's ed asking "what's the free right on red rule?"  Isn't that why they are in driver's ed, to learn?

Sorry, that probably is a bit snarky.

If someone who was supposedly a licensed commercial hot sauce maker asked "what's a pH?"  I would reply as above that the person shouldn't be making hot sauce.

If a new chile grower posted that same question of "What's a pH?" , I and most others here on THP would be happy to reply with information.
