Same. In fact Ive only got one hook out of 220+ sowed in all trays so far. Somethings up with my mix this year I think.

If its ok with everyone and Pepper Guru we will have two more additions to the Growdown.

Sealorde and Firestorm

I will be handing some seedlings to them so it will come down to first transplant and method of growing for the remainder of the competition.

Ill apologise in advance to all Northern Hemisphere contestants for making this a three horse race.

Rock out the geothermal growing gear NZ. Theres some wannabe disciplining to be handed out.

Once they outgrow the aerogarden, I would assume you would be transplanting to some large pots? Definitely looking forward to seeing the pics and the awesome root systems these plants will have.

I spoke too soon. Just checked and we have germination on three different varieties, so it has begun!

You've got them at 80F degrees ABOVE zero, right? :rolleyes:

Glad to see all the hooks

I don't have a count as I need to look, but some are still just popping. Most have. So for those that haven't seen any yet, be patient. I have mine in a mix I made from 5 parts coir, 1 part perlite, 1 part cheapo potting soil. I use 3.5" pots add the potting soil to within 1" of the top and then fill the rest with the mix. I stand the pots in the tray and fill the trays with water until the mix at the top is soaked from the bottom up. plant and wait. I have them in the grow room (8x24') and kept at 80°, 14"s below the t8's with 6500k's which run 16 hours a day. If the top of the soil looks dry I use a spray bottle and mist them. After they pop I only bottom water and stand there and watch to make sure the "top mix" doesn't get soaked. Damping off sucks..once they stand I move them under the lights at a 4" height.

I started my chinense Dec 3rd, some are really, really slow. Today I just saw the orangegum tigermamp pop. Never give up.

THAT, and the battery acid are the key :shh:

I've struggled with damping off. I like your strategy. I need to try to bottom water more.

Potted up 6 more. I think that will do it for GDTD 2018.

Here's a little experiment for you to try to get a better understanding of how much water to give your plants: Plant a few in clear solo type cups, but use a red outer cup so light cant get in. Poke a few holes in the bottom and bottom water, but only when the soil is semi dry, but still slightly moist. This will give you a better idea of how much you need to water and how often. I had problems with damping off too and this method helped me to realize that I was giving them 4 to 5 times more water than they needed. The top third would be bone dry and the bottom was soggy all the time. Anyway, I dont use clear cups anymore, but I can tell by the weight if they are thirsty or not.

I see aphids in both of these photos. All in the soil too...yeah gonna need you to throw those out. For the sake of your grow space.

Those are perfect looking seedlings.

Using clear cups here as well. "Calibrating" my eye took some time, and I nearly lost one of the seedlings when it suddenly wilted. But now I think I've got it down.
