It's getting to that stage where we need to plan the next growdown.

I can supply the Aji Cito seeds, but will need to get them posted pretty quick so get voting

I also have no issue if we go with something else, but will need to order in good time as it takes ages to get to NZ

If you vote 'Something Else' post a suggested variety

Poll closes Friday 27th April

Weekly Update.

The plants seem to be going nicely. ive changed the watering to bottom watering so we will see how that goes.

They are starting to get fairly tall now and are struggling to support them selves so i will tie them up in the next day or so. Just a question too you more experienced growers when would you consider pinching the tops or shortening back to try and bush them up a little? Do Aji Cito respond well too this or should they be let run?

Still really cold in the north east of victoria so they still have a long journey ahead of them in the grow tent under lights. We had 10cm of snow at our place last sunday.

They would certainly benefit from a topping. One thing I will say is that it will test your staking skills as it grows. They dont have the strongest stems and due to their sprawling nature and prolific pods they get weighed down quite easily. I topped mine once last year, chucked them in the garden and let them be. Ended up looking messy but had bumper harvests. This year will try pruning a bit more.

Youve talked me into it. ive got a few nice plants now too choose from so i'm going to top one of my strongest plants today and leave the other one for another week or so. i'll also top one of my smaller plants now just too see what response i get from that also.

Yes they do very well after topping, but mine started to fork after 2 weeks of intensive light and sun therapy, without topping and never stopped forking.

So, I think that strong lights and a lot of sunshine with higher temps also help with early branching.

Thanks for the advice. i topped a couple today. i'll wait and see how they respond and i may top some more in a few weeks.

8h00 over here, with the last frost hopefully behind us, my main contender to compete is enjoying the early morning sunshine.
Should get at least 10 hours of sun today and then back to lights for the night shift.

That plant is looking fantastic.

I thought we were done with the frost for the year last week, and was thinking about putting mine outside. Glad I didn't though.

Yesterday and today we have had very cold nights and bad frost each morning. Maybe another week or two.

Most frustrating time of the year.
Indoor space running out, a few great days, but still frost looming.

I'm a day early on my update. The plants seem to be growing well again this week. i think the bottom watering has picked up their growth. the plants i topped have responded and are starting to throw extra shoots. i think i will do my other plant next week once i see another weeks results. The First picture is one of the stronger plants i havent topped yet.

At the moment I have 3 plants, but only one real contender. The other two have been sleeping outside for the last week and the weather just turned back to winter with a huge cold front and rain with snow on the mountains. The rain is very welcome so no complaints.
I have been babysitting one plant, only outside on beautiful sunny days, bigger pots, lights and warm grow box on colder days and every night.

Note our crazy weather, today max 8 Celsius, and in 4 days, 30 Celsius.
Good growing to all of you.

That plant is looking good. Bad luck about the weather all over the place like that.

My plants are looking a bit sad at the moment. We are getting some rain every day lately but the temps aren't too bad.

I am going to put half of them outside under shelter to see if that makes them pick up a bit.

Mine are still fairly little. I have a few in the shed on a heat mat, under a standard light bulb, and a few more out in the greenhouse. It's still pretty cold, and I don't have any fancy equipment / boxes / lights to help. I figure they'll take off when the weather improves.

Hi All,

so first off apologies for being so slack with posting anything since the first of mine germinated back in early July.
Everyone's plants are looking great! This is going to be a good comp!

These are the two plants that I've been growing;

They're not as advanced as some of the others here, but I'm happy with the leaf shapes/colours. everything's looking pretty healthy to me.
These are under full spectrum LEDs on a 16hr on 8hr off cycle and I've just started hardening them off over the last couple of days
