2019 Bringin' it back GLOG YAMracer754

So it's that time again. Stupid landlord and other haters wondering what am I doing now!? Well.. They don't know me. "Figured after last year you'd be done with all that pepper growing crap since you wasted so much time, energy, and money. That was just silly.."

Listen Mr. Creepy Landlord. I got news for you - I'm gonna go harder, faster, and better than last year and you can threaten me with not being able to use the water source - make me build a "rainwater collection system" (and that's not a lot of work[and mosquitoes] for $10 extra p/month on the well?). But I will push on...

So here we go. Late start. Zone 6b. Middle Tennessee. Rockwool first timer. Learned a hell of a lot last year. Had (in my opinion) an extremely successful and very productive yield last season - especially considering first time New plot in red clay soil!! Lots of amendments were necessary btw.

With a lot of love and help from all of you guys and gals on this forum-I have a heap of seeds from the two trains - 200+ diff phenos If I might have to guess. So I narrowed it down to 92 of the most interesting and promising (IMO) phenos to grow and vac sealed the rest with o2 absorbers. Save for 3 phenos (aleppo, and two big sweet juicy Turkish strains), there is only one plant that will be grown out of each strain. Should make for interesting nutritional requirements/variations, as well as heights and varying pest resistance but thats what makes this fun, no? VARIETY! I will get a list rigged to list all what I am growing but this should be fun! Loving the rockwool - apprehensive at first because I had never used it but it seems very effective and forgiving! That's all for now here's a few pics and a [emoji867] to the landlord :)

Plus 1 on all the comments!

Maybe the landlord will learn something from your endeavors? You're doing the right thing for the clay soil, my experiences are is that clay is easier to bring around than sand.

Good luck this season!
The soil is beautiful and black, straight polar opposite from last year, and I have more worms than I ever could have imagined!! All of the advice, help, knowledge, and permaculture stuff Iearned from you guys and other experts in the field(s) totally worked and kicked @ss!

Hey, Tristen, welcome to the 2019 glogosphere!

Good luck with the rockwool. My first season using
them, as well.

Hope the upcoming season is a scorcher for you!
Loving the rockwool btw, how's your luck been so far? I got plants that have only been actively growing after germing for like 2 weeks and are ready for transplant into larger container (or the ground/bags depending how brave I may feel)

The rockwool cubes have been successful for me.
I will probably use them again next season. I like
the fact that you can see the seed germinating
in the hole.

I think two weeks is about the optimal time for
leaving the seedlings in the cubes. Good luck
deciding what to do with your plants. Feeling
brave?

Well little intermediate update before I put everybody in their final spots in containers and in garden rows. All hardened off and ready to go the full Monty! I still have planted other stuff in garden corner I raised from Seed as well, squash(es), cukes, radishes, lettuce(s), spinach, strawberries, and 3 diff basil types as well as bunching onions from Seed. Oh yeah, garlic chives as well and lotta volunteers!

Still dealing with landlord issues, but did get 2 275gal totes for h20 collection for $60 just gotta wash the soy barbecue smoke what have you food/soy extract that was in them. Intense, and I don't want no unwanted sodium in my water, just gotta figure out what chemical can break this stuff down-pics of all that tomorrow.. But here's my trays. Not bad for starting 4/7 seed drop, eh? Did my best to accelerate growth rates by all means and methods I was aware of and in research. PDN orig orange pheno in there :)

I use Lye for cleaning, but you have to have jugs of vinegar around, wear old clothes, and have a good idea what you are doing, otherwise you can really hurt yourself with that stuff.

So.. sorry I have not been as active on the forum as last year.. Things have been awry as far as employment, fu-ed up landlord, and other factors with family and such but I have not slacked far as growing and trying to do cutting-edge things just like last season... I think of you guys every time I go and take a look at the Garden, as I know you are the only type of people that would appreciate what's going on this season.

But this year I did Cedar Pathways to repel undesirable pests, as well as I was a bit late to the game as far as seed starting, but everything here is from Seed, and with minimal additional water (landlord bs), working on creating a rainwater collection system.. Won't even let me have plants on the porch even though people were stopping and nearly crashing just to talk to me about the plants last year as they were so massive and developed. Also hating on my investment of 28 fabric pots and doesn't want me to use any.. Lot(s) of depression for sure. Even grew me some rocotos of different types-all from the seed train! Here she is:

Your cedar mulch has captured my curiosity.

I just cut down a small cedar tree (about 10-12 feet tall).  They pop up wild in my yard, and I sometimes just let them grow, with the idea I'll cut them down when they get too big.

I might see if I can "roll-my-own" cedar mulch.  :)

The cedar is the best natural IPM thing I have seen so far! Very interesting - and impressed ;definitely use that cedar if you have it for free! It ran out here quick and that was it!
