GARLIC

i to am growing garlic i have done 14 bulbs in pint plastic pots 5 days ago and left them inside and the roots are about 2inch already can see bottom of pot.have found this very good to start them and i will plant out in a couple of weeks.
 
Garlic grows like a weed, i'm pretty sure you can just direct sow it. Best part bout growing garlic is getting to use the "green garlic". Basically you can use the leaves the same way you would use green onions or chives. I LOVE green garlic chopped up over some eggs.

Growing garlic for the cloves takes quite a long time. Growing it for the leaves takes < 1 month. During the grow season I'll plant extra garlic cloves in any open space i have in pots so I have a good supply of green garlic.

Plant your garlic in composted HORSE MANURE!!

it give the garlic a very unique flavor. The garlic will have a pleasant sweet taste and it produces a very potent garlic. (I have a fried that grows it this way and it is about the best I have had)
 
Garlic does't do well here but sweet onions and red onions are prolific here.Florida sweet onions just blow away vidalias and 10 15's.We keep them all to ourselves tho!I plant them in my pepper pots to keep down the moisture in winter.I have a couple @ 1"diameter stalk now.I grill them with some evoo or eat raw with a lil salt.The florida sweets are planted between strawberry rows here and are definately the best I've tasted.I was amazed when I first moved here and frantically search all the farmstands in the late spring when they start running out.If you can find them,get them you will love them!
 
Well I planted the cloves at least 3 inches apart and have at it.Put 30 in this fall and have 26 sprouts.Won`t be home to enjoy but --They grow great in the ground without a lot of work.Good luck Rich
 
Good luck to you. Whenever I try and grow garlic, I end up with dirty mouldy garlic, not garlic sprouts, so I dont bother anymore.
