First tomato seedlings of 2009

I sowed about 100 Siletz seeds Thursday and several sprouted this morning. These are early toms, 55-70 days. I know, this is from Transplant day but from everything I read, the maturity date is a guideline, not a rule. It also appears that getting them started early will result in earlier fruits.

There is also the question of what is "Transplant Day" exactly? Does transplanting into hydroponics count? BTW, the world record for tallest tomato is 65' and it was grown in a hydroponics unit!

The guinness record is 65 feet but apparently the tom actually grew to 92 feet.

The guy must have had a tall ceiling, not to mention a deep reservoir! The guy would have needed a crane to pick the ripe toms.

The Land is a pretty awesome place. that tomato plant covers like an entire field. it actually grows on some kind of giant frame or something... very cool. they also have eggplants, pumpkins and all the Hydro goodies you'll ever want.

I don't think it was as much tall as it was long.

"Greenhouse Sensation Record Breaker
The Greenhouse Sensation range of hydro systems have been many years in their development. While trialling one of the early prototypes we grew into the record books. One of our "Sungold" tomato plants reached a length of 19.8 metres (65 feet) on 11th May 2000 and is an official world record.

It made an almost full circuit around the roof of our greenhouse, and lived for two and a half years, continually producing tasty tomatoes. The plants final length was almost half as much again. The record still stands so why not try and beat it!"

one plant covers an entire field ?

is this possible ?

About 16 inches of snow on the ground thanks to a snow bomb yesterday but some seedlings don't mind - they are inside!

These Siletz toms were sowed last Thursday. It's a tad early but these will go in at least 3" or maybe larger pots to sell in early May.

Some of the first peppers I sowed this season. They are Bhuts that first sprouted on Jan. 5.

That's a lot of maters! Wonder if they would mind if I took a cutting?

The vine grows golf ball-sized tomatoes which are harvested and served at restaurants at Walt Disney World.

It seems like all you have to do to get seeds is to go to Disney World:)
