shopping Looking for Chocolate Habanero Seeds

Starting a plan for my 2022 pepper grow. I had a good habanero harvest this year that included both orange and Caribbean reds and would like to add a chocolate hab to the coming season and wondered if anyone has a recommended seed source that they have had good success with.

@Tybo Gettin after it already, huh? lol.

Well, I checked @midwestchilehead and it looks like John has Jamaican Hot Chocolate . He might have some straight chocolate in the pipeline - dunno. If so, I've always been happy with his seeds.

Also, it looks like Baker Creek has Chocolate Habanero. I've been pleased with their seeds over the years as well, plus I think they have free shipping.

Thanks for the reply DR. I wouldn't say Im getting after it yet but just looking.
I did find a few places online that sell them but was hoping to find recommendations for good phenotypes I guess. Im sure you've bought seeds that didnt turn out like they were supposed to. Just trying to avoid that. Ive got plenty of time yet so I'll keep looking.
Let me know if you come across any more.

Most people seem to trust White Hot, and they mark their isolated seeds in the listings, this one is.

With that said, Jamaican Hot Chocolate is my favorite powder! Had it years ago and still miss it. KILLER ON PIZZA!

Ive bought seeds from them and have had good luck. I'll definitely check out the site. It's Justin right?
...and I'm one of those people. I've been pleased with WHP as well.
Thanks DR

I'll keep that in mind when I harvest next year. Might be some powder coming your way!

I have seen contradictory things online regarding the different brown habaneros. Congo black, brown habanero, hot chocolate habanero, chocolate habanero - some say they are all the same, some say they are significantly different.

I grew hot chocolate habanero this year, and I am thinking that I will try congo black in the future.

IIRC, when i was shopping @ APS (pepperseeds.ca), they had "jamaican hot chocolate", "chocolate habanero", and "habanero jamaican hot chocolate" all listed separately and with varying SHU levels in the descriptions. i purchased seeds for and grew the latter of the three this year, as i wanted to try the JHC flavour people claim is top-notch, but with the added heat level the hab version claimed to have. the piece of raw pepper i ate was indeed tasty, but i don't know if it was packing the 300-450k the site claimed its range to be. regular JHC was posted as being 100-150k, again IIRC. and from what i remember the image of the JHC had more of an elongated eggplant-like shape versus the hab's rounder shape. the HJHC i grew were all kind of egg-shaped, so in between the JHC and normal hab shape, which lends credence to the variety i had being a cross of the two.

Makes me wonder if there is a reason to not trust WHP...?
The reason I say most people trust is, I am not speaking for myself. I don't really grow peppers but being on the site daily, I can see who people trust. Your own due diligence is of course recommended.

Justin from WHP seems a stand-up guy to me and heard good things as for the Chocolate Hab it's had more renames than I care to mention mostly of the Same plant but renamed by some seed sellers but also a number of crosses have been done over the years one by me in 2007/8 which was Choc Hab / Bhutt Jolokia which I named the Habolokia.

Don't forget this site contains a great deal of information going back many years and worth anybody's time to search and ye will find.

I can't say I have grown them all, but I do notice a distinctive difference between the regular Chocolate habanero, and Jamaican hot chocolate habanero. The JHC has a unique smoky flavor that the regular one lacks. The chocolate hab can be a bit smoky but not as strong or as consistent as the JHC. I have had tons of chocolate habs that just does not match up flavor wise to the JHC. Growing conditions and different methods make the regular hab very inconsistent, whereas the JHC has been spot on every time. To my personal tastes, the JMC has lots of flavor that the standard chocolate habanero lacks.

I have isolated Choc Habanero seed from the ones I grew from JLHudson.. Prolific and plenty hot. I put them on the train in '19, but only CD has grown them, that I know of. This is a habanero strain, not a jolokia.
