Jacob's 2011 Pepper Porn

Well, it only took a couple of months but I am finally able to get some pics posted. Work has been absolutely crazy all year, working 12 hours a day and most weekends. Between that and family obligation, it is a miracle the plants are still alive much less producing. At least it is starting to slow down a bit so I can get some seeds isolated before the season ends.

But anyways, on to the good stuff:

Good to be back. I hope I don't stay away that long again. Takes a bit of the joy out of the gardening when you don't share it.

Here is a couple of more pics I just got uploaded:

Didn't realize I had this plant. I thought it didn't make it. Kinda got swallowed up by the others around it and couldn't see the tag for it. Just located it today and this pod was ready to go. Grew out some douglah seeds I got from a member here originally from cmpman1974's seed stock and one of the 3 plants came out blocky, some with a tail some not and red. This was also the HOTTEST pepper I have tried so far. Lost the sense of taste for quite a while after trying it. Tried to dry the extras, as the plant produced about 200 pods, and after 3 days in the dehydrator at 125, they were still not completely dry do to the extremely high oil content. I still have that plant, but it is much more compact this year and only a hand full of pods so far as I made a bonchi out of it. I may repot it and see how much more it will grow by the end of the season and through the next one.

Thanks for looking!

Woo hooo! Great Update! Glad your back! As always you grow such interesting and unique varieties. Hey I hope you can save me a few seeds from that 7 Chocolate. I tried to germinate the seeds from the one you sent me last year but I was 0 for 10 on them and was 92% on everything else. That is still my all time favorite tasting pepper and hope to grow it out again next year so I can confirm its deliciousness. LOL Man, that last douglah cross looks like it could possibly save the USA. Maybe we can grow fields of them and make a biofuel out of all that oil. If your sharing seeds from that one, put me down as well.

Thanks Michael. It is good to be back and show off the fruits of my labor. I got you some seeds from the choc 7, no problem. I still have some isolated ones from last year, and am isolated again this year. It is a great pepper. I am planning to save some seeds from that one as well as the F1 plant I still have out there. Just glued closed 6 buds yesterday.

Great pod pics Jacob, those 7pot/pod white hybrids are ooking goooooood

Thanks JR. It is a beautiful pepper. I got 2 plants from the seeds you sent me beginning of last year. They took about 3 or 4 months to finally sprout. Both plants I have look identical. Pale light green unripe then going the pale white ripe same as the white devil's tongue. Not much of a color transition at all.

Holy 7 pot harvest!!! Beautiful looking pods, I'd love to get my hands on some seeds from those white 7 pots. Nicely done.

Welcome back jj.

That F2 Douglah cross is stunning! The darn thing almost sparkles. Hope you can stabilize it.

Would you mind explaining the flower gluing process? Sounds interesting. Have you seen the gelatin capsule that some folks are using now? I wonder if one way is significantly better/easier than the other.

Thanks.

Thanks patrick. To glue the flowers closed, I just take some of the cheap elmer's school glue (on sale for like a quarter with school starting up) and put a drop on the flower tip after it enlarges, but before it starts to open. Then, I mark the flower either with a string, or for this year, using a white paint pen and putting a mark on the flower stem. This has worked the best for me, but I haven't seen or tried the gel cap method though. I have tried to bag the blossoms with organza or tea bags and got horrible flower drops with them.

Well Jacob. I was wondering when you would post your stuff. great to see you back dude!. The seven pots White's are beautiful and so is everyting else. Looks like the yellow bhuts grew the same as mine last year. The primos you sent me are doing awesome too.
Go Blue!

Thanks bro. Really like those yellow bhuts. Much more like a bhut than the ones I grew last year.

Yessir, GO BLUE!!! One good thing about working as much as I have this year is that it was easy to talk the wife into letting me buy tickets to the Michigan-Notre Dame night game here in a couple weeks. :woohoo: First ever night game at Michigan Stadium, alternate uniforms, and Gameday making the trip. That is going to be a great time!
