  • If a man gave me a hot, steaming sweet potato with lots of butter, ginger and chipotle chile powder on it, I might think he was making a marriage proposal. It would be weird, but I'd sure be tempted to eat it.

What if a man gives you a raw sweet potato, a stick of butter, a fresh ginger root and a bottle of Chipotle powder and says "when's dinner going to be ready and can you bring me a beer?"

The girls are spending the day and night inside. Temps are supposed to get to 30's (F) tonight. But Monday? High of almost 80F.

22 chile plants and 2 eggplant plants. The eggplants are total brats. While the chiles are happy to play outside in the sun at 50F, the eggplants are drama queens in those conditions. Though in the 30's when I got up this morning, it's supposed to hit 50 around 10am, 60 by noon. Like it or not, they're all being banished from the house at 10a!
What is with all the friggin' fires today??? No, I do not live in the PNW!

Ours were an inner-city church, a bus, and not sure about 2 others yet. The church provided free meals to people who had need. Nothing LOL about fires of any kind!
Pondering: What we in the U.S. call "being laid off" is called "being made redundant" in Australia. They technically mean the same thing, but for me "being made redundant" has a metallic ring to it, as if it refers to inanimate objects instead of people. It's just a cultural difference, but an interesting one.

I hate for anyone to lose their means of living, but agree that, in some cases, it really is better for all involved. Even the ones being let go, as hard as it can be for them, have to be miserable in their jobs at some level but need some impetus to move on. Hopefully they will find new employment soon in an environment that better suits them.

Another observation: I'll take both "being laid off" and "being made redundant" over "being severed" any day!

You might be related to geeme if you go to an urgent care center you haven't been at before and the receptionist says "oh, yes, you ARE in our system already." Not had that? Then how about going to PT and all the therapists greet you like an old friend? ALL of them. And you know all of them by first name. Hey - at least nothing seems to be broken!

Nah - merger of the urgent care center into a network. But really, I am just rather accident-prone. The PT's all know me by name and I know them equally as well! LOL
Pretty stoked about today. I've only been running again for a max of 3 weeks now, but am only 0.38s away from the MPS for qualifying in the 50M for Nationals. And I've got 8 weeks to train until States. BOOM!

"Interesting" depends upon one's perspective. If you're talking superhots, nothing hotter than rocoto in my order. Trying a couple new varieties, but mostly varieties I am already familiar with. However, got 10 of one variety, to see what I can make of it.

    Amen to that, ajdrew!

I didn't mean superhots. I meat peppers. Do you have any interesting peppers? Rocotos are cool. I've only had luck growing Peru bitdumi.

That sucks. At least I didn't pull mine, just used them a lot more in a different way than I am used to. For about an hour. It's amazing how much discomfort a mere hour can cause! But I went for a lactic acid-cleansing type of run after work yesterday, and that helped a lot. Still a bit sore today, but likely will be back to normal tomorrow.
Registered today: May 21 will be my first official track meet. June 11 is the state qualification meet for track. June 12 is the state qualification meet for swimming. I suspect this next month and a half will be rather intense!

Took a look-see at the pots. Golden oregano is coming back. The green onions never left. Tarragon is coming back. The rosemary hung on all winter, but the recent wet spell did it in. The wooly thyme is becoming a monster. Will be growing ginger this year. Oh yeah, chiles are on order for May.

And surely you know that synthetically-produced EPO is specifically listed in the anti-doping rules, and that they now have the means to test for natural vs. synthetic...

Besides, victory is hollow when artificially attained.
2016 = Qualifying year for National Sr. Olympics. I can't do archery since it runs concurrently with swimming, but I can do track. This should be interesting!

Bought a package of bacon-wrapped sirloin steaks. One was very odd-shaped, almost a lop-sided pyramid. Slapped it in the CI tonight but didn't think to get out the Thermapen. No matter - perfectly seared on the outside, perfectly my kind of rare on the inside, all the way through. Dang, that was some GOOD eats!
That's it. I am not ever growing hot peppers again. From now on, POTATOES. These things are growing like weeds and we haven't even planted them yet, they're just sitting in a net bag on a counter, getting all jiggy with it.

before city bylaws became anal, people use to plant potatoes in new subdivision to nitrate their yards, as many landfills were just clay with a small amount of topsoil.

MRpeabody, I and many others here have used CCN (chileplants.com) for several years now and have been very happy with them. I've had two orders with issues created by the shipper, and they immediately replaced my orders without any hassle, never mind the fault wasn't really theirs. There are other reputable sellers on this site, too, but I've stuck with CCN.
Hi, Hon. About dinner tonight... I'm so sorry, but I totally ruined it. What? No, I'm not chewing on anything. What? Oh, no, that's.... gum! Yeah, gum! No, no, it's so bad you should just pick up food for yourself out somewhere. What? No, I didn't just smack my lips! Yeah, this :mmmmm: roast is the worst I've ever made...
