    anybody growing hatch chili's?

You don't have to go to Hatch to get "Hatch" peppers, as so many of those sold in Hatch are actually from Southern Arizona (Baja Arizona).  Hatch chilies are nothing but a marketing gimmick.  Here are a couple of sources...

    Seeds direct from Lima, Peru!!!

We don't have grass lawns in Tucson.  That being said, it is easy to grow plants in pots here, and there's plenty of clay pots available. I received mine two days ago.  Thanks again, Nigel!

    hot-sauce Mayanik Habanero hot sauces

Hi Everyone,   A local Latino market in Tucson started carrying this brand that consists of 4 habanero hot sauces at just over $2 a piece.  So I did a review of them:

heat Atlantic Journal "So God Made The Worlds Hottest Pepper"

I'm a bit lost here.  Who exactly tested the Reaper?  Has the CPI ever tested the Reaper?  I read how some here advocate that perhaps an average heat level should determine the title of "Hottest."  If that's the case, wouldn't it make sense to have a standard of where such testing is conducted...

    seeds Question about seed saving

I recently picked my red ripe Bhut Jolokia S2 pods (original seeds from Semillas La Palma).  Today, I see that an orange pod was accidentally knocked off the plant.  So, are those seeds viable, or do I have to wait for it to ripen to a full red first?   I guess I have the same question about all...

seeds where can I get manzano seeds?

I just purchased some Manzanos in the produce aisle of Herradera Market here in Tucson.  It is a Latino market that occasionally carries them.  These are yellow-orange in color, and are commercial.  They are NOT the Peruvian Rocotos (as I have a package of frozen Rocotos from Peru as well) but...

    Chiltepin Amarillo

Thanks for the advice.  Besides, I still have more seed from NSS, and I acquired some from Semillas La Palma.   Yes, I've got to taste it when it ripens!

    Chiltepin Amarillo

My Chiltepin Amarillo is full of flowers right now!  The plant is only 3-4 months old, and has been growing under my lights in my garage and seed starting room.  I got the seeds from Native Seed Search, and I've already grown and sold several starts.  I'm excited that I'm about to get pods!  The...

    Black Chiltepins

I hope I'm posting this in the right section.   The shop I sell my chili starts to told me that they have had customers asking for black chiltepin (aka Pima Bajo) plants.  I would like to add these to my list, but I have had no luck finding any seeds available on the Internet.     Does anyone...

seeds When to pick and seed a Bhut Jolokia?

Alright, I just cut the pepper open and took the 14 seeds out.  I tasted a small piece from the bottom end, and found the flavor to be wonderful!...But not that hot!  So I cut off a small piece from the upper end, and while it had some heat, it wasn't extreme by any stretch of the imagination...

    Arizona Chileheads----Local Knowledge Needed

Yes, Food City is in Tucson.  There are several here and I shop there often.  You'll find them in the Latino areas, as Food City caters to the Latino Community.  Food City also has lower prices than other chain grocery stores, as the Latino areas are more poor than the other areas in Tucson.    ...

seeds When to pick and seed a Bhut Jolokia?

I have a Bhut Jolokia pepper that is red except for the very tip of the pepper.  At what point can I harvest viable seeds from these peppers (or how ripe should they be)?   This pepper has taken a few weeks to turn from a shade of brown to red.  These peppers seem to be very slow to ripen!  Is...
