2/6.  Good attempt! 0/6.  I can tell you I have questions about one variety as I'm not sure they have grown true.  Or I may have mislabeled it.  I'll post the answers tomorrow.

OK, I know what these are, let's see how well ya'll can guess them.  There's only one "trick" one.  The rest are relatively common supers.   Whose up for it?

    Cool summer grow problems?

We've had the same deal hear, just 10 degrees warmer, low 80's to high 60's   We've had one heat wave this year and a lot of rain.  Since the temps have dipped everything is suddenly ripening.  Luckily I have a lot of big pods, but hopefully the little ones will get bigger before ripening.

A Pepperhead glog: Pickling, Saucing, and Powdering

Ripening update! I think the carribean red is almost fully ripe. One of my jungle Primos is starting to turn red and soon for the harvest...Butch T! On a sadder note, with all the rain we've had, I lost 2 pumkin vines to vine rot. The vine rotted near the base and I lost everything on them...

A Pepperhead glog: Pickling, Saucing, and Powdering

Frustrating, isn't it? Yesterday I made some discoveries. Gnarly Reaper reddening! And my jungle garden Primo has been sporting a third pod that was apparently completely hidden. Todays inspection discovered habby Reapers ripening and reddening Jonahs. And last, but not least, a carribean red...

    Gibberellic Acid and its effects.

Cool experiment! If the plant is healthy you should be able to cut it back enough to recover it for overwintering. Just stop using the hormone for a while and let it work its way out ouf the plant's system. I don't know about set pods, but the plants DNA doesn't change.

    Pure Vs. Hybrid

I've always thought the dog breeding comparison was apt.  The difference is, with peppers you don't have shelters full of vegetables waiting to be euthanized. :)

    Pure Vs. Hybrid

This debate started on someone's topic, and I feel it is worth discussing, but didn't want to hijack someone else's thread.  So let's get it out here.   There are those who believe that crossing different varieties will lead to the loss of older strains of peppers as the gene pool is diluted. ...

    hybrid Successful C. galapagoense Cross

Okay.  I had no idea there were that many strains before I started growing.  The world will go on.    Edit:  I started a new topic on this so we wouldn't hijack Spicegeist's thread.  Sorry Spicegeist.

A Pepperhead glog: Pickling, Saucing, and Powdering

Picture time!  Went out to the garden today to take some pics and do a little harvesting. Picked a dozen or so yellow and red Bhuts. Unfortunately my harvest photos didn't make it to Photobucket, so you're left with some of the garden pics.   So the Dorsets are a nice orange color now.  Looking...

    hybrid Successful C. galapagoense Cross

I think about it in my grow.  I just don't really care.  I don't grow anything in isolation, I just let nature do its thing.  When I trade I let people know, this is what it was, it may or may not have crossed.  This year I have made no intentional crosses.  But if I decide to do it, I really...

    chinense Bhut Jolokia Varieties

I've got a bhut pod on one of my yellows that looks like a scorpion, squat with a long stinger.  All the others look normal, but that one stands out.  Maybe they're evolving...

water Overwatered vs first pods low heat

So I gave my neighbor a ripe bhut and Prik kee to try the other day.  He found the bhut to be about jalapeno strength and the PK to be wicked hot.  It could be early fruit mildness, but my money is on me overwatering.  Tried a sliver from one I picked earlier and froze and found it pretty...

    chinense bhut jolokia color transformations

I got two kinds of bhuts in one seed packet.     I ordered regular bhuts and some grew to look like this.  They ripened directly to red.         Then others are ripening yellow, and may or may not look more orangeish as I leave them on the plant (could be my imagination).  I'm gonna have to...
