Surely you still need to sear the outside surfaces of the meat before grinding/mincing otherwise they could end up anywhere in the burger.

Shouldn't do - MH lamps are more efficient than CFL's.

For the number of 5mm LEDs you need to get the same radiant flux, the cost works out about the same. Factor in assembly costs when in production and there's no contest!

I can't really understand why they bother building these lamps with loads of 5mm LEDs. They offer quite poor light output compared to the current 1 and 3 watt generations of LEDs out there, and they inherently have very poor thermal design. It'd be much simpler for them to build if they only had...
