PLEASE take an up close photo of the base of that trunk with something for scale (standard Bic lighter, beer can, etc.,).

    overwintering Overwintering, doing it wrong...

The plant can keep growing and it's still considered an overwinter - in order to go dormant the temperatures and light need to be reduced.   So your plant may continue to grow (though more slowly) inside in a window sill. Next spring plant it up into a bigger pot and it should take off.   Make...

This is suppose to be a Carolina Reaper ?!?!

Picture quality isn't great so hard to tell, but it looks more like a red habanero than a Reaper

Anyone ever use liquid smoke when making homemade hot sauce?

Smoked peppers or smoked salt would work. Liquid smoke is strong, but it's a good option. I would start small - maybe a 1/8 teaspoon in a quart sized jar - and go from there.   You can also get some smoke flavor by charring peppers on a charcoal grill. Just be careful with bringing hot and...

    Spicy peanut butter....any tips?

Came to say this. I would maybe go peanut oil over water - that sounds like it would separate and be watery/gross.

artwork New hot sauce startup considerations

Little late here but I hope this is relevant - SnF and SL said to get friends/family who you know and trust to give you some feedback. While I think this is good for initial test batches, you are unlikely to get true, unfiltered, honest feedback from people who know and like you. They want to be...

Hey Trent, just curious, I read the California ban and it mentioned exemptions as follows: 2. Exemptions. Certification requirements are waived on the following articles and commodities covered: a. Shelled popcorn, seed for planting, or clean sacked grain for human consumption. b. Beans in...

Calyx looks too large to be chinense. Do you have a picture of the flowers? Kind of looks like a baccatum to me.

seeds Roots stuck in seed coat

Maybe it's the first known case of pepper trench foot!   I didn't manage to see if the roots were brown, I had my headlamp on but it was dark this morning... will update this post if it dies or starts to grow.   Obviously picking out seedlings in a large operation is not really feasible, but I...

seeds Roots stuck in seed coat

I recently started several seeds and planted them out. I noticed that one (Jamaican Hot Chocolate) was growing much more slowly than the others. It developed it's first set of true leaves but stayed smaller than a dime and was not growing   Since I germinated in rock wool cubes and then planted...

End of summer in France - Piment d'Espelette time!

I dont need seeds but I had a fantastic dish with a piment desplette sauce and the chef was kind enough to share the recipe: X weight of peppers 1/2X weight of tomato -roast these together Add to blender with garlic, salt and pepper, and red wine vinegar (all to taste) Drizzle in good olive oil...

Storing whole pod in the fridge?

Pretty sure seeds can be stored in the freezer. They might have to be completely dry to avoid cell rupture, but Im 99% sure that fresh seeds in the fridge will germinate normally.

Are any chilli/pepper cultivars, species or types actually annual?

All are perennial. Here is some great info on overwintering: http://thehotpepper.com/topic/25596-the-comprehensive-guide-to-over-wintering/ I successfully cut some down and they survived indoors over the winter but I moved them outside too quickly without properly hardening off. They lost all...
