I think it depends on grow season length.  Bell peppers have large meaty berries (like also Big Jims) and if you have a short grow season then you won't be able to top them and get a return in the same year as easily as someone who has a 6-7 month grow season.  If you're overwintering plants...

I don't see why it would hurt to use an insect resistant plant in a foliar spray, but I have to say...I have the complete opposite idea when it comes to companion plants.  I plant weeds that attract insects as bug traps (like daturas).

They taste a lot like cranberries, they're a bit sweeter raw though.  The crowberries are the super nasty ones even though they are edible they definitely require some sugar.
