pests Bug ID.. what the bloody heck is this?

yeah looks like ladybird larvae to me!

    Two issues

with those frazzled new growth tips that I think I can see in the photos, you might want to check for broad mite with a loupe, just to be sure you don't have them.

Should all these be separated before re-potting? UPDATE #1: first 2 transplanted, photo update

I dont even understand why you'd sow more than one seed in a cell, it's not like pepper seeds are small or anything! Seems a bit daft, do they really have such low germination rates that this is necessary, and if so, how many seeds did they put in there? ten? :D

    Damnit so very much...

Yes - but that's on the assumption that the frost will penetrate the ground, which is very unlikely at this time of year in most parts of the world, the low temp usually is an air temperature only, or that's my understanding. So I wouldn't think that's a concern, but you are right in theory...

    Damnit so very much...

Ouch, that's nasty. They're ok down to freezing but below that, if they freeze then it will burst the plant cells and as has been said so succinctly, death shall occur! You can insulate them with any insulating material but whether they survive depends on how long the outside temp stays below...

    Help! I need a diagnosis

I think the problem is you've done too much. They look like they need a bigger pot to me but hard to tell from the angle of the photos. Check the bottom for roots poking out, if so, repot. If the soil is waterlogged then you can change it but this will stress the plant more so I would not...

Florida is trying to kill my plants (yes a little dramatic)

Too cold? Hah. If I can manage to start seeds in December in the UK ;-) Ok so I may have used a heated propagator. Those things are awesome, thoroughly recommend!

They dont look too bad to me...

Cherry Bomb looking a little off...

Not sure if oedema causes curling but they may be two symptoms of one problem, if the soil is waterlogged the roots might be in distress. I'd lift the pot off and check the roots personally.

water How do I know if im over watering ?

I find oedema to be the first sign of too much water, but anything like mushrooms in the soil or moss or fungus gnat are also indicators.  Remember that "overwatering" can be caused by saturated / poorly draining soil as well as lack of air circulation or heat or sunlight hours, so it's not as...

    Cinnamon against thrips

Don't be fooled into making a positive association between something like cinnamon and thrips. I dont mean that as a criticism, but I have had a thrips problem for about 3 months now and in spite of me doing very little to try to stop it, the numbers remain very low and sporadic. If I'd done...

    Something eating my pepper plants

I'm not sure if pyrethrin is best for scale or whether a soap/fatty acid based spray is better? This is pretty comprehensive.   http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=224   I'd say that scale is probably not easily eradicated especially outdoors so it might be a case of controlling it rather...

Cherry Bomb looking a little off...

cherry bomb do certainly like to flower early but no that's not the reason why this has happened. Have you looked really close for pests, and I mean really close with a magnifying glass? Under leaves and right in the new growth too?

    Night time temperatures

It will slow them down, new leaves will grow smaller and plants more compact in the cold I find, but otherwise nope mine have been down to 0.5C on many nights and suffered no harm. It also works as pretty good pest control if it gets cold enough! :)

    Something eating my pepper plants

yep - it's scale. I had a store bought chilli with scale this year, the problem with scale is that even when they're dead, the dead scale is still there on the plant. So you have no idea if you've got rid of them or not!  I'd certainly spend some time picking them off by hand right now to...

    Transplanting flowering/fruiting plants

I've never concerned myself about repotting timing, I guess it would have an effect but might be countered by the new soil and its nutrition. I've done worse, my scotch bonnet overwintered plant - I replaced all the soil as the flowers were plentiful but not setting fruit. Major root trauma but...

stupid question, but is this starting of fruit?

Yes that's fruit, usually pretty much guaranteed to grow to ripe now if you treat it well. The technical name for it is that the "fruit has set". Many recommend now to feed the plants if you haven't already.

    Is it too late??

It's not too late - I started seeds in June last year and got some yield! Though I would probably try faster growing chillies personally now

Ladies and Gents, I present to you - the Thrip-inator!

That's where a coke bottle cut in half or a soap bottle in my case comes in. Increasing the width will decrease the airflow significantly. If that still doesn't work, cut some holes in the coke bottle "funnel" toward the top.    Just don't try it without the funnel - I tried that, it ripped...

Ladies and Gents, I present to you - the Thrip-inator!

Well...problem is my thrip problems are still rather sporadic, I mean, of course thats not a problem!! But it seems the ladybirds are far more effective at dispatching with the thrips than anything I build, so as yet - no solid results!    It's great for dealing with flies in the greenhouse...
