Hidden Gems - Kaa Sangwa Kinnit and Kpakpo Shito

So I went to the Como Conservatory here in Minneapolis today and found a few surprises.  There was an edible section with a bunch of fruit trees and all kinds of edible plants.  Imagine my surprise when right inside the door was a Douglah.  I made my way around the room and picked pods from 6...

Poypoy's 2014 Grow Log - Flowers and Round 2 Sown

Once I pot up the seedlings I will put the ones that haven't sprouted back on the heat mat and under the humidity dome.  We'll see if anything comes of it.  I do use fish emulsion when I am running low on water from my fish tank.  With only a few plants I have plenty of water sitting there.

Poypoy's 2014 Grow Log - Flowers and Round 2 Sown

Just a quick update.  Some of the plants are starting to flower and the pubescens are mostly up.  Some of them aren't going to make it as they couldn't shed their seed coats.  I tried operating on a few but they didn't really survive the procedure :)   Bahamian Goat   MOA   The one Bahamian...

    annuum Looking for RED JALAPENOS!

I definitely wouldn't count a fresno as a jalapeno variety.  Very different flavor.

Not a fan of either team. Grats on a dominating defense, but what a horribly boring game to watch.

favorite What is your favorite pepper in terms of taste (doesn't need to be super hot)?

I guess I am going to be tracking down seed for this one for this year.  Thanks Nigel :)   Editing to add that I completely forgot to post my favorites.  I was too shocked by Nigel.   Bahamian Goat Pepper, Scotch Bonnets, and a lot of baccatums.

seeds Distilled water for seed starting?

I use straight tap water and have never had an issue that I can see.  I start between 5-600 plants a year between peppers and tomatoes.

Poypoy's 2014 Grow Log - Flowers and Round 2 Sown

Well most of the Pubescens have at least started to pop, plus I needed to get some current pictures of my Bahamian Goats and Scotch Bonnets.  Just a short update as I only have 4 pictures to post.   These three strapping young lads are my Bahamian Goat Peppers.  I will be starting more with the...

bonchi grow log (everyone can post)

Ditto to what Nightshade said.  My bonchii's kind of just turned into over-winters with the lack of participation.

    Dear Scovie

With how much they struggled with the niners I just don't see them winning.   The last "good" superbowl we had was the Packer-Steeler one.  It was a close game and fairly well officiated.  I don't like blowouts - they aren't fun for anyone.

Well, at least we will get to see Denver stomp on the Seahawks.

    Tomato problems

The purpling is normal and nothing to worry about.  I would say a good 50% of my tomato seedlings/plants end up with some purple on them during their life (start about 250 a year).   They don't seem to be drooping too much, I would just let things get a little dryer before you water again.  It...

Poypoy's 2014 Grow Log - Flowers and Round 2 Sown

My wife thinks I am crazy with my seed collection, but it pales in comparison to some of the others on this forum.  I am sitting around 130 varieties to choose from but quite a lot I wouldn't grow again for personal use.

Poypoy's 2014 Grow Log - Flowers and Round 2 Sown

I can squeeze 80 in or so depending on how I utilize my space.  I still have gallons of peppers in the freezer so I am sure my wife will want me to save less.   Either way I need to find a new way to freeze them that doesn't make my whole freezer smell like peppers.

Pot up cotys or wait for first true leaves?

I always wait for at least one set of true leaves before I pot them up.
