Nice catch and great pics!   I vacuum seal my fish as well.   What kind of rod/reel is that?  Some kind of trolling combo with a line counter reel?

Black Crappie fried in butter for four minutes and thirty seconds a side. This was cooked perfectly.   Not sweet like the Catfish I recently reviewed,, but nonetheless a delicious fish with a deep complex flavor.  I ate it with a Pumpkinseed Sunfish cooked next to it and the "Sunny" was much...

    Dragon49's 2018 Grow Log

I’m not growing a lot this year.  I ordered six Superchile plants from CCN.  These always grow well in my garden which doesn’t have an ideal lighting situation:

I ate it before your reply:)   Nothing was wrong with the skin.  I'm not a good filletter and not a big fan of it anyway.  I generally like skin and with the Catfish, I had the added benefit of not having to scale it.  I also don't mind eating around the bones.  Here is my review:    ...

Breaded and salted Bullhead Catfish fried in butter for three and a half minutes a side:   The meat was sweet and delicious. The breadcrumbs were a little burnt and the meat a drop undercooked. Next time, I’ll cook it on medium instead of high and add a few minutes.

The fish is currently thawing in my refrigerator with the head off and all of the skin on.  I'm going to fry it up for dinner tomorrow night.  Can I use a variation of the same technique to get the skin off?   Ty

I was surprised to have caught this as people local to the area have always told me that they only feed at night.  This one took my worm in the middle of the day.  I was planning on skinning it but gave up.  The problem was that the fish was alive at the cleaning table and it was so slimy and...

In New York State, a Pickerel must be at least fifteen inches in order for the angler to keep it.  I tossed this one back as it was only twelve inches.  I also tossed back another 12 inch one and an eight inch one.  Four out of the last seven I landed were below the minimum "keeper" size and...

I'm gonna use this general thread to ask for an ID.  Are these Bullhead catfish?  Sorry - I didn't catch any and don't have any better pictures.  Whatever the f*** they are, they don't like worms, as they literally swam right through my nightcralers without even taking a nibble:

The upstate New York lakes finally thawed and I got to go fishing.     I had to throw this back as Pickerel season doesn't start until May 5th: - Pickerel LOVE shiny spinnebaits!.  I landed the fish my first time throwing this lure:         The Pumpkinseed Sunfish and Bluegill aren't biting at...

    Recovering Your Ransomed PhotoBucket Pix

That's scary!   I've been using IMGUR for a while as I was tired of the Photobucket ads.  That probably means that many of my old THP posts lost the linked graphics.

New York State has delicious Bluegill and Yellow Perch.  I'm not a big fan of filleting anyway, but it is certainly a waste of too much good meat with the panfish.  I just cut the heads off, gut them and scale them.  I find that my family and friends are generally too wussy to eat around the...

    Dragon49's 1017 Grow Log

    Dragon49's 1017 Grow Log

The year is almost over, but here is my 2017 Grow Log:   I want to thank the people who started and are maintaining the cooking and fishing threads, as without them, I wouldn’t be doing anything at all here.    I haven’t grown anything indoors or on my balcony since 2015, and this year’s main...

    2017 Hot Sauce - Batch #2

I bought some official calibration liquid and got new batteries.  The first reading that I reported at 4.4 was just a drop high.  New and improved tests show it came in at 4.2.

    2017 Hot Sauce - Batch #2

I was about to calibrate with vinegar and re-test with one batch that's been in my refrigerator since yesterday afternoon, but the batteries in my tester are shot.  I'll go to a jeweler during the week to get them replaced, as they are three watch style batteries.  Perhaps the batteries...

    2017 Hot Sauce - Batch #2

I had a feeling you were kidding, but I missed the Bond reference :)   For future batches, I'll get some calibration liquid and try and test everything at a normalized temp.   Ty
