Chaotianjiao's 2013 Grow Log - A little bit of everything!

Peppers aren't looking too interesting yet – still just cotyledons. So until they become a little more interesting, here's a San Marzano tomato plant. San Marzano Tomato Plant 2013-03-26 by bearsbearsbears, on Flickr I think my phone camera doesn't care for the fluorescent bulbs! I...

    Hello from Los Angeles CA

Yep! Chungking, Taste of Chongqing, Hunan Chili King, Hunan Seafood Restaurant, 168 Garden, Yunnan Garden, etc. Check 'em out on Yelp for ideas about specific dishes. "Fire exploded kidney flowers" (火爆腰花) and anything with pickled peppers (泡椒) will be very hot. There's also a dish called "spicy...

I'd be happy to take part, too, but also rather new here. No worries if not! :)

    T5 HO

This is all I could find by way of metal halide: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/wat/for/3699213221.html Is this a good deal? I don't know anything about the MH lights, so i can't gauge quality. This is what I found for t5 ho: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/bab/3650183749.html $40 cheaper than...

    Hello from Los Angeles CA

Welcome from an LA native now in Atlanta! If you like spicy, you've got to check out the restaurants in the SGV! :)

    Leftovers Help

For the pasta sauce, I'd suggest a baked ziti kind of dish, with roasted peppers and (ground beef) meatballs, spicy if you want 'em. Recipes should be plentiful online.

Did your Aji Rojo fruit? Was it clearly a baccatum?

Chaotianjiao's 2013 Grow Log - A little bit of everything!

Seeing the grow logs on here has inspired me to put up my own. It may not be the most interesting, the most frequently updated, or have the highest scoville units, but I think it will be fun to see how far I've come over the season and track my progress. I'm growing a lot more peppers this year...

pod Old pepper seeds and pods

"Corn" refers to the fruit of a grain crop in England and Scotland. What we call corn they call maize. If the news source was from the UK, they probably meant some sort of wheat or related grain.

    Compost Starter?

Do you know if it's an innoculant or activator? Innoculants are pretty much unnecessary, and I haven't found that they make faster compost. You'd be better off throwing in a few handfuls of garden soil to innoculate your pile. Activators are only useful if you have a high carbon:nitrogen ratio.

    vendor Trade Winds Fruit

I ordered Aji Rojo, Jamaican Hot Chocolate, Red Manzano Pepper, Mulato Isleno and Orange Green Zebra Tomato seeds from Trade Winds. Of the peppers so far, only 1 of the 8 Manzano has hooked, but it's only been 1 week. I presume the Manzano is as advertised because the seeds were black. The...

    Hello from Toledo, Ohio

Holy Toledo! (Sorry, had to!) Howdy from Atlanta. I had that problem with tomatoes we grew in earthtainers (quasi-hydro?) outdoors; they were just too close together. You should space your plants out more if you grow them outside again. While square foot gardening might work for their soil...

Possibly starting my grow in a month

As a Socal native, I say wait to start. Your seedlings will need your daily attention, and with your long growing season you don't have to worry about them not ripening in time. Heck, depending where you are in San Diego, you could grow year-round.

flavor Tamarind hot sauces??? any recipes out there?

I just remembered: there's khajur imli ki, tamarind chutney sauce that's served with samosas and chaat. It normally contains a little pepper powder for flavor, but I'm guessing fresh fruity/citrus or smokey peppers would go great in it.

flavor Tamarind hot sauces??? any recipes out there?

There are some delicious curries with tamarind paste, but I never thought about hot sauces using tamarind before. It sounds plausible and delicious! *follows*

    vendor pepperlover.com

I ordered bull's heart, goat's weed, and mako akokosrade and received datil, red bhut, and brain strain yellow for free. I've had a red bhut and a datil show root in 4 days, but nothing from the others yet. It's not even a week yet, though. High hopes, though the post office seems to have...

Based on what I usually have around, some combination of the dishes below. One thing that cuts out a good third of these recipes is if I have no green onions or equivalents. Spicy sesame dandan noodles 担担面 Stir-fried tomato (or zucchini, or cucumber) with egg 番茄炒鸡蛋 Steamed tilapia or catfish...

    container Container grown Poblanos?

I grew them in a pot and out of a pot last year. In the pot, they gave me about 20 medium-sized and small poblanos. In the ground, maybe 30 larger ones with a few smaller ones here and there. The pot was probably a 5 gal equivalent.
