    hydroponic Anyone growing chiles hydroponically?

Thanks! The roots are spread pretty well throughout the reservoir and wrapped around everything in there. It looks super healthy!     That is right! I had some lamp light wiring left over from an existing project. Cut it to size, stripped the ends, cut the light wire for the aerogarden...

    Virgil's Small Scale Glog

They are 3 gallon!  For my dirt I did 5 parts soil 1 part earthworm castings 1 part perlite 1 part sphagnum moss 1 tablespoon dolomite lime per gallon   I did 16 gallons of mixture. 12 gallons total for the larger pots and a single gallon for the other. I have enough left over to do another...

    Virgil's Small Scale Glog

Been a while since I updated this! For that, I apologize. Everything is growing along merrily. I had a small mishap and gave the plants too much fertilizer, ended up getting some leaf burn. I have been keeping the light low and close to the plants, resulting in them being fairly short and the...

    hydroponic Anyone growing chiles hydroponically?

We modified one of those aerogardens to be higher the other day so we could accommodate my Sus Biberi plant, which was growing itself against the light and burning. I didn't want to trim it back because it is growing beautifully. I just took off the bottom leaves in the last few days and it is...

    Anyone enjoy being a "sleeper"?

One of the managers in my office is from Columbia and she said she could handle heat. I made this delicious hot sauce out of reapers and scorpions and some other hots, and her reaction was priceless! She hacked and wheezed like all the rest :)

Pepper Burns - How to get rid of them?

I did use Dawn. Then (in order of memory, not application), I used hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, oils, dirt, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, witch hazel, baking soda, cascade dishwasher powder, I tried sucking on my fingers, I did a sea salt rub, milk, I did a shot of whiskey and...

Pepper Burns - How to get rid of them?

haha when I had the burn, it kicked in about 20 minutes after I had finished handling my peppers/sauce. Soap did nothing at that poing :( I agree though, hand sanitizer will not help out

Pepper Burns - How to get rid of them?

I tried that.....no luck. I swear the coffee grounds did it for me when literally everything else failed. You name it, I tried it.

    soil Indoor soil mix advice?

I'm not too worried about the plants blowing away, the fans aren't that strong :D and they're plastic pots so I don't care if I have to do some drilling! There are some pretty large drainage holes in the bottom. They're only 3 gallon pots (4 of em) and I've accrued enough medium to fill them...

    soil Indoor soil mix advice?

I sure am, Dave! One 3 ft T5 6400k right now which will soon turn into 3. Not to mention, I'm really thinking of a DIY LED setup in conjunction with the lights I have.   Geeme, I will avoid the rocks!

dehydrators Who runs their dehydrator outside?

When I lived in NH, it was no bid deal to do it out on the deck. It only gets humid in the summer and even then, it is less than many other places. Living in NC now, I still run the nesco out on the deck but it takes a bit longer than I'm used to due to humidity. Not really a big deal, though!

    soil Indoor soil mix advice?

Well I'm not broke lol, I guess small budget is subjective...I'm trying to be minimal on spending but 15-30 bucks on additives isn't going to bother me. I do want to make sure the soil is going to promote healthy and resilient plants. If it isn't necessary then perhaps I won't do it but if you...

    Virgil's Small Scale Glog

Thanks for the input, hogleg! I'll tape em up. I live right by a petstore so I'll grab both those things too.   I do have an extra PC fan and plug as I was planning on adding the exhaust fan at the top but it doesn't seem needed just yet....you're probably right though when additional lights get...

    Virgil's Small Scale Glog

Thanks! The light is a 3ft Sunblaster T5 6400k, I'll likely need 2 more to get to the lumen level I want but for now this is good. I am really thinking of instead adding LEDs as some have suggested here. You can make your own and it is super easy, albiet tedious, to do. I have plenty of solder...

    Virgil's Small Scale Glog

Finally, after getting the greenhouse built, I'm able to start one of these :P I have been dying to get things growing but wanted all my ducks in a row. Anyway, in the ensuing pages you will find details on my plants and what I did to get them to where they are going to be (either awesome or...

    overwintering the winter grow!

Oh man, I'm glad to hear you're ok- too many people getting hurt on bikes. I've almost bitten it myself, hope there isn't too much damage to your bike. Anyway, enjoying reading about your grow thus far!

greenhouse Small indoor greenhouse almost done!

Man it may be more trouble than it is worth! There is also no more space between the wall and the back of the cabinet and greenhouse. If I put something over the fans it will close them in and goodbye airflow. Maybe something around the fans to limit the vibrating.....on my air pumps for my...

    fermenting Choosing H20 for Ferment

I have one of those Pur faucet filters on my sink and I let the water sit for a little while. Do you know if your water has chlorine or chloramine? Chlorine will evaporate in a little while (8 hours or so) but chloramine stays in the water for days and may not separate itself from the water...
