You would have to find it on tap in Austin between November & February. Weihenstephaner makes a pretty decent weizenbock called Vitus though that you can find in bombers year round. Its not as good but still pretty good.

    soil "The Perfect Soil"

I added a cubic yard of dairy cow shit compost to my 2 8x4 raised beds this year and the plants are already bigger at this point than they typically get by August. Also added 42 gal of composted turkey manure split between the two beds too.    Never had much luck growing peppers in this bed...

Imgur is allowed here, just click the little picture button that looks like this      Then paste the URL in the box that pops up. If your images are too large you can add an "h" to the end of the url before the extension to use a slightly resized version. For example you could...

First set pods of the season goes to Shishito     I didn't even see these this morning when taking pics, only little tiny ones where the flower had just fallen off. Really looking forward to this one, the shishitos are so expensive in the store when I can find them.

    TXCG 2016

Bought an 18lb bag of Tomato Tone and gave each plant about 1/4 cup scratched into the surface in a ring around the drip line of each plant. Finally got to try out my soaker hose too, ran it for an hour but it looks like I'll need to run it around 2 for a proper watering. Of course a...

    Animal Picture of the Day

Ran into a guy with a pet goose out on the lake today. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see him unload it from his truck in a little animal crate. He takes it out with him kayaking and it just follows him around honking.      Gary the goose

Any issues vegging with HPS or fruiting with MH?

You can use CMH (Ceramic metal halide) bulbs with a 400w HPS ballast: http://www.htgsupply.com/products/ge-400-watt-ceramic-metal-halide-lamp   CMH is pretty damn cool, much closer to the spectrum of sunlight compared to either MH or HPS. Slightly lower lumen output but supposedly higher PAR for...

    A pepper tree

Lemon drops are crazy prolific producers, get absolutely huge given a a large enough container & keep on producing right through the middle of Texas 100+ degree summer. One of my favorite peppers. They don't really grow "tree like" like chinenses though.

    hydroponic Hydroponic Carolina Reaper Grow

Having EC too high can cause flower drop, especially if you are using nutrients high in nitrogen. I had this problem on my first hydro grow. Huge, fast growing plants but flowers kept dropping due to overfeeding.

    Reservoir size question

Generally the larger the reservoir the less you will have to dick with it. You will see less pH & EC fluctuation with a larger res compared to a smaller one so larger is definitely better for the most part.   The only downside I can think of to having a gigantic reservoir is that you still need...

    Berry pickin'

Went out picking dewberries this sunday. All the stuff that looks like poison ivy in this pic is actually peppervine.      Figured we would have a bumper crop this year since we have had so much rain. Turns out we had a bit too much rain and my prime spot was about 4 feet under water. Still...

    The thread of Creepy Crawlies

Went out picking dewberries this weekend and the spittlebugs were out in full force. Never seen so many of them, pretty much covering every plant in the area that didn't have thorns on it.       Tried to get a pic of the bug inside the spit cocoon but got photobombed by another bug

    TXCG 2016

So far so good, nothing has died and everything is looking mostly healthy. Azamax & spinosad have done a decent job getting the thrips, aphids and possibly broadmites under control. New growth on most plants looking nice instead of all chewed up. Still haven't had a chance to use my fancy...

I dunno about weed but I noticed no difference in flavor between peppers grown in hydro or soil.

    hydroponic Why Hydroponics ?

Once you see how fast stuff grows in hydro compared to traditional growing methods you will understand why people do it. Plus once you get everything dialed in it's actually less work, most of the stuff is automated & you just have to keep an eye on EC, pH & water level.    Also for a greenhouse...
