    Pumpkins 2015

I don't know if it's technically a pumpkin but I found some "Rai Kaw Taw" seeds from a couple years ago that I might give a shot this year. Looks interesting. http://www.rareseeds.com/thai-rai-kaw-tok-p/

sun Kevins long term review of the Sun Blaze 4ft 8 bulb

Hey Kevin, I have the 4ft 4-bulb version. This is its third year. I've only had one bulb burn out on me so far, my only complaint is that this year I took it back out of the package and somehow the rocker switch came apart. Took me a while to find the spring and little plastic bit to put it...

    Last year's Yellow Moruga seeds

I had a red Brain-like offspring pop up among the Yellows I got from Judy a couple years ago, probably just a cross like mine.

    synclinorium's 2015 Grow Log

Haha, most of its size actually came from its first year. The last couple years have been a bit underwhelming due to weather and other issues.   Pods are like elongate brains, ripen to red. Otherwise nothing particularly noteworthy, so I haven't bothered growing it out.

    synclinorium's 2015 Grow Log

Found some radioactive-orange pots on clearance today so I gave a few of the overwinters a much needed pot-up. Front left two are c. rhombs I started in December. The two on the right are overwintered white habs. Back left is an Aji Amarillo overwinter, and the middle back is the Brain Strain...

    synclinorium's 2015 Grow Log

I'm actually not a huge fan of chinense taste, which is another reason I cut back. I find habaneros to be disgusting, most Trinidad varieties are pretty tasty though.

    synclinorium's 2015 Grow Log

I'm down in Champaign, we'll see how it goes. Last year it was so cold that things never really took off. Hopefully this summer will be a little more on the average to warm side.

    synclinorium's 2015 Grow Log

Started a bit late this year so we'll see how it goes. Just spent the past 40 minutes trying to fix the broken on/off switch on my T5 fixture. $100 piece of equipment taken down by a 2 cent piece of plastic. :banghead: All is well now, at least. Not doing much heat this go around. I've finally...

breeding What is the best chilli breed for getting a nice large bushy tree

A lot of the capsicum pubescens varieties will get huge. You might not get ripe peppers off them for a while (and they have trouble setting fruit in hotter temperatures). But they have some unique features- purple flowers, black seeds, fuzzy stems leaves. Only the superhots I've grown have...

    Chili de Arbol

Yeah, I like them better when dried. Mine looked like yours. The stems weren't particularly sturdy and needed support... more viney than tree-like.

    Chili de Arbol

I grew this last year and the pods were pendant. They did indeed start drying on the plant fairly quickly after ripening, what was left is hanging around in simple ristras. Got my seeds from Judy. I agree that they have a great flavor, they're one of my favorite all-purpose peppers.

    hybrid Unintentional Crosses

One thing I'll mention, and it could be coincidence, but all of my crosses popped up after selecting for the strongest seedlings. For example one year 2/3 of my tepins were hybrids, and those 2 were much stronger growers than their brothers and sisters. Same thing happened with my Brain Strain...

pics The Post Your Seedling Pics Thread

My actual starts for the year haven't started poking up yet... but I have a couple c. rhombs that I started in December when I was feeling a bit stir crazy. So... technically last year's starts.

    Pot Size.. Does size matter?

Pot size matters the longer your growing season is. If you start late or you have a short growing season, you can probably get away with a smaller pot. However, most years my peppers in 5 gallon pots sort of max out while the ones in the ground keep growing... and growing... and growing... until...

favorite Wild Varieties-What is your favorite

This thread is great. I'm trying a few more wilds this year, I have a couple of c. rhombs that I started before December that are coming along nicely next to the windowsill. I wasn't expecting them to be as vigorous as they are. Lanceolatums just started poking up so fingers crossed...

annuum Anyone growing the farmers jalapeno?

There on my list for the year. I did Jalapeno "Cracked" last year, so I expect them to be like that on steroids. A fun conversation piece hopefully.

    hybrid Unintentional Crosses

I typically do <50 plants a year (it's been <25 the last couple years) and I've had at least one cross every year. Granted... some of those seeds were from Judy, so I think just have bad luck.

    synclinorium's 2014 Glog (abridged)

Hadn't been over to the garden for a few days, everything has starting ripening... Douglah and Moruga Yellow     Brain Strain Yellow hybrid. Nothing particularly unusual about these, but given the appearance and flavor the father was probably another Trinidad strain.

chinense I Review The White Habanero

I've grown these for a few years, I like them because the plant stays fairly compact while getting loaded up with pods, so they're probably one of the easier varieties to keep producing through winter if you feel so inclined. I don't have any overwintered this year, but they mature pretty...
