    Donnie's 2016 Season

A fantasy called nightmare!:-) No, I get it, sometimes it gets too much with all those attention-craving plants. I also consider the amount of plants each year, but my conclusion is always that it is not that much more work to grow 200-300 plants than 5 or 10 while I'm at it. Which is, of...

    Donnie's 2016 Season

You're right, and yes I have, but I was not that impressed with flavor or cold tolerance. Thanks for bringing them up, though. The Turkish Aci Sivri and Corbaci were better for me productionwise, but flavor was nothing special. Maybe I should try a korean Gochu next year, will keep an eye on...

    Donnie's 2016 Season

Yes, the Pimenta Morango is certainly a favourite of mine! ;-) It really blew my mind when I first grew it around 10 years ago - I had no idea that it would have these wonderful chinense-aromas, because I had never seen a chinense cluster variety, not even a black foliaged one like Pimenta da...

    Donnie's 2016 Season

An interspecific cluster-type crossed with Aji Charapita:  (Aribibi Gusano x Pimenta Morango F3) x (Sarit Gat) F2 Orange Cluster Selection) x Aji Charapita I struggled to get self-pollinated pods, so I only have 2 pods of seeds for growing out next year. Plan was to select for cluster-types, but...

    Donnie's 2016 Season

Thanks - I doubt I will get a lot of ripe Aji Panca pods even though they set their first fruit early in June - I am planning to bring it inside for a few weeks from early October on to ripen some pods. I like that its pods dry out on the plant and its low pungency and flavor, so I have crossed...

    Donnie's 2016 Season

Time for an update of my Naga Morich cross ((Pequin de Ischia x Naga Morich F4) x Thunder Mountain Longhorn) F2... I have chosen 5 plants out of the 15 grown, selecting the earliest, most productive and best looking. Now it's time to evaluate flavor, which is most important... The 5 initial...

    Comptine's Swedish Glog 2016

I am from Denmark and growing in 6 L Air Pots this year, too - when it comes to crop yield I don't think I would benefit from growing in 10 liter pots, since they are already able to produce more pods than are able to ripen here. Nice to be able to compare your grow in a similar location to mine.:-)

    Donnie's 2016 Season

A few of the best looking "F2"-selections of (Naga Morich x Pequin de Ischia) F3 x Thunder Mountain Longhorn... Plants are very loose in their growth habit making them less susceptible to fungal diseases, which is of great importance here in Denmark, where we have had rain of some kind almost...

annuum So what is the best jalapeno?

Not a hybrid: http://www.chilepepperinstitute.org/content/files/HortSciVaquero.pdf From the description section: "Replicated trials over 3 years confirmed its superior yield and quality to other open-pollinated jalapen ̃ o cultivars."

    Weird Aji Sugar Rush

I'm pretty sure Aji Sugar Rush was labeled (PL) which is their (untraditional and faint) way of saying the variety is bred by them and may not be fully stabile. In fact I have even bought stabile varieties from them that did not grow true. From their site: "Some of the breeds are only one year...

    Donnie's 2016 Season

First plant up is one out of only two F2-selections from 250 seedlings of the cross NuMex Sunglo x Purple Flash - goal is to improve on fruit set ability and fruit quality of Purple Flash, I am hoping my selection will have yellow fruits but with genetics in mind, chances are not that good. I...

    Donnie's 2016 Season

Thanks, a lot of them will not be interesting in their first year, for example the cluster varieties will not show up until the F2-generation. Most interesting for me will be ((Pequin de Ischia x Naga Morich) F4 x Thunder Mountain Longhorn) F2. How long will they become and can I find one among...

    Donnie's 2016 Season

Thanks, yes I have grown pubescens for many years, but I don't find them very interesting flavor- or heatwise, I prefer low heat and chinense-flavors plus I like pods that dry easily for storage. I can recommend the Locato PI 387838 with small, yellow fruits for short season areas, I also hear...

New genetic trait with this F2-seedling!?

Plant is looking much happier in its new, larger pot and it seems a pod is being formed, photo no. 3 shows approximately 2 days after pollination...

New genetic trait with this F2-seedling!?

I will if plant is self-compatible and has fertile pollen, I have experienced problems with a couple of my crosses, but they were both interspecific, so fingers crossed... If not, I will find a suitable pollen donor and look for this trait in future generations. I will also try to take cuttings...

New genetic trait with this F2-seedling!?

A German grower has just posted same phenomena in his Glog... :-) http://thehotpepper.com/topic/58110-meteoras-glog-2016/page-6 But still, is this new and could it be a gene that is latently in Purple Flash...?
