Same thing across town from you - short and stocky plants all around. Some are already pushing superhots now and I'm just waiting for a few to turn red as they have achieved harvest size. I've never had growth this dense outdoors before. This is a good thing IMO since they will all be less...

    pests Dealing with aphid damage

I use neem oil and a little castile soap with great results on aphids. Here's a cheap source: http://www.amazon.com/Dyna-Gro-Neem-Oil-8-Ounce/dp/B0012BGXVQ/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340499132&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=neem+dyn Works great on most other pests. It isn't "instant' knockdown, but it...

    Ghost dropping peppers?

This is a really great list - thank you for posting it. The one thing I would add is lack of Potassium (K). I've noticed a distinct correlation between K deficiency and proper fruit set, not just in peppers. Most interesting is that the peppers seem to have just "set" from the pictures. I feed...

    Pepper Extraction, Revisited

If you can get your hands on it and and recycle, pentane does a better job than butane IMO. You should literally get white/opaque casaicin crystals.

Noticed my first Naga Jolokia forming today - it's already about 3" long so I don't know how I missed it. Can't believe how early it is this year. Hope this one is hot and tasty!

    Justaguy's 2012 Garden Season

Whatever it is, a couple applications of neem couldn't hurt. Hit my garden with it the second time this season and insect damage was hugely curtailed. Stuff smells nasty though! (perfectly safe though)

    Stressing peppers

I calibrate everything with the Baseline single controller. I use drip tape so I can cover a lot of area with only one circuit. Here's what I use: http://www.baselinesystems.com/products.php/watertec-s100 Think it cost me around $150.

    Hello from Pennsylvania

Welcome to THP! Lots of us from the Pennsyltucky midstate here - I spend my time between Mercersburg and Carlisle. I've got some frozen superhots and will have some fresh Butch-T's pretty soon if you'd like to try some.

food Anyone have any great Serrano pepper recipes? Going to be a lot of 'em this year!

Hello fellow THP'ers! Looks like it is going to be a banner year for serranos for me. Last year I tested a serrano plant in the outdoor hydro system I really scaled up this year. It yielded a total of 42 lbs (not a misprint) over the course of the season. This year I put out almost 50 serranos...

I hate weeding too - that's why I started growing above ground in tubes. Now I just walk the rows with a weed wacker and I'm done in 5 minutes instead of 5 hours (Yay!)

review Official Review: Knepper's Peppers Seventh Circle Hot Sauce

Totally agree - his cherry-smoked Scorp powder is really fantastic - I've had some for about a week and have used it on four dishes already. Intense heat without ruining the meal and incredible flavor. Haven't cracked open my 7th circle bottle yet as I'm nursing the Jimmy Scorpion sauce and...

    Stressing peppers

What I have found is that by manipulating the root zone, one can create hotter and tastier peppers. However that does not mean starving it for water outright, as seems to be the case in your picture. The magic number seems to be 40% field moisture in the root zone. By keeping things between 25%...

Creatures from the grow this week.

Notices a huge toad hanging out in my garde nthis early evening. He looked FULL. that makes me happy. Between him and the large numbers of assassin bugs, there has been little to no insect damage this week.

Noticed some bacterial leaf spot issues on leaves - not just in my garden. Opinions wanted

OK, over a week has passed and things are looking a trillion times better now. All new growth looks picture-perfect and no more spots. Hooray! Looks like there are going to be a LOT of peppers this year! Took 3 treatments.
