    It's Powder Time

Do you combine pepper powders or keep them separate? Do you use certain peppers for different dishes or just whatever you're in the mood for? I dehydrate my peppers and just roast the family's eyeballs and singe their nose hairs. They expect it now :)

overwintering Keeping my Habanero Pods Fresh over the winter?

I both dry and freeze. I also use them in other cannings, such as the jelly mentioned above. Spread the love!   I always have a freezer full of everything. Yesterday, I shifted some of the contents and found half a gallon of ghosts from last year. What to do, what to do?

    Tomatoes are toast

Despite my efforts, I noticed my buttercup squash were taken out by squash vine borers. Yes, they do make things less fun. But it's palatable when everything else grows well. I'm glad your efforts are being rewarded!

    Tomatoes are toast

I'm ready to make the official declaration. Way too much humidity, too much rain, and too many stretches of mild temps, including overnights in the 50s. Early blight whacked them early, which is disrupting the fruits' ability to ripen. By this time last year, I was rushing to preserve, cook...

[Aug 7] What are you working on this week?

Slowly starting to harvest. Lamenting the early blight taking out my tomatoes. Some more herbs to dry and seed collection. Making no end of refrigerator pickles.

    Humidity

Purely observational on my part. The last 8-10 days have been 80 degrees or less with a lot of high humidity. My thinking is that no breeze, dense air, *mild* summer heat after high, dry heat has stalled out the peppers. I also agree with Moruga that August will have me picking enough peppers...

heat Hottest yellow/white super hot I have ever tried!

Wow, good and brave review!   I watched it with my 10 year old daughter. She added some color: "Just eat it, man!" She can't take the build-up. "He wants to show us the pepper on the inside, what it looks like. He's an enthusiast." Doesn't understand.   You eat the pepper. "What's the matter...

    Humidity

When I was a kid, Tom Kean was governor and he was pitching NJ tourism hard with his slogan: "NJ and you, perfect together." This year, my slogan is: "NJ and humidity: sh!tty for peppers."   The past, say, week and a half has been mostly high humidity and mild temps. It's beginning to affect...

    Hornworm on my pepper

Yeah, I hear you - I've seen a hornworm mow down tomato plants in my garden. So....I guess I'm lucky here. But I can say this for sure: the bag protected the hornworm against the braconid wasps that patrol my yard.   So...AJ...maybe this is Hornworm 1, Me 0 in terms of smarts :)
