ants bring in them aphids to the plants. eliminate the ants, the aphid problem will not spread as badly. but once the aphids are there, it's gonna be tough to get rid of them.

you are correct. malathion does not kill on contact. it takes a while for them to roll over and die. but then again i didn't watch them til they finally croaked. i waited for like two minutes and they weren't even fazed. but when i did come back. they were pretty dead as can be. =D

mine kind of grow like weeds when i leave them alone. it's when i baby them, they pretty much die. lol.

i don't even harden mine off. they just go in full sun and i leave them alone, so long as they're large enough and healthy enough they'll survive and power through it. after my final repotting, they go into raised beds and they fend for themselves.

i live in a tropical country. and i've found all my pepper plants grow best in full sun. doesn't matter what variety, they all just want full sun. the ones in the shade ain't doin' squat for me. gonna replant them somewhere else and put in shade loving plants there instead.
