    Origin of Super Chile Hybrid's

technically speaking, i have a strong math intuition that breeding across multiple plants within an f2+ generation should result in quicker stabilization, at the risk of less variation/loss of a desired trait throughout future generations.

    Growth rates

most definitely typical. chocolate habs are generally thought of as pretty robust plants, they'd beat anything except maybe a brain strain in terms of plant vigor (only counting c. chinense though).

a few questions concerning my plants

i wouldn't. keep fertilizing on a regular schedules. peppers need green growth to set fruit just because of their branching structure. also, yeah, leaf size is partly genetics, but at the same time, I have a couple of 7 pots growing in my backyard from various sources and their leaf size...

    I Got Pepper Scammed!

if you need motivation as to how awesome caribbean reds can be, look up potawie's pictures of his caribbean red; the one he overwintered. those pics were the main motivator in making me pick up a few plants from one of the local flower shops (they double as nurseries here in nyc). they're...

What is a good calcium fert?

another way of doing it is to blacken the egg shells in a pan and then drop them in a jar of vinegar. they will begin to bubble on contact. keep the mix airtight. wait for 2 weeks then apply about 1 tablespoon of the mix per liter of water. worked wonders for me last year.

How often to apply epsom salt?

i remember AJ (i think?) stating a while back that if you overdo it, you can inhibit nutrient intake because of the resulting high magnesium content of the soil.

    overwintering Overwintering young plants

as of right now, i have two chocolate habs and a brain strain in the backyard which were overwintered after having started them late june of last year. they're by far the strongest healthiest plants in my backyard. i actually overwintered them in painted 1.5 liter bottles of coke zero. one the...

my plants were a wreck after the move. temps are up. they're starting to recover. oh yeah, brain strains are ridiculously tough compared to anything else in my garden.

shopping Why do store bought peppers suck?

flavor also sucks. i can get more habanero or cayenne flavor out of any of the 5 jars of pickled peppers I made last year and they're all better than what I can get at stores... and the dude at the farmer's market seems to have an issue with pepper flies, so i'm not going near that unless I...
