    chinense Store Bought Habaneros

after your first season, you won't have to buy any again; you'll see. especially if you decide to grow orange habs. my worst pods were most definitely better than the nicest pods you could find around here. i still have jars and jars of homemade hot sauce, and tons of power/dried pods from the...

how many before you should say your fav. hot sauce.

i kinda have a favorite.... a simple onion-garlic-bhut jolokia sauce i make.... then again, i like a lot of food, but when i pick a favorite, i stick to it 'til i hate it.

i'll post pics tomorrow most surely. germination is proceeding slowly, but that's no surprise. new york hates peppers. last time it took 21 days to get ring of fires to pop, but then again, i wasn't using a heating mat that time. anyways, one red habanero popped it's head a week ago. a white...

    e-book readers are awesome!

heh, as a designer, i find e-book readers to be one of the scariest trends out there. typography and layout go out the door, and one book rarely looks different from all others. plus i kinda love the feel of a book in my hands, and the possibility of glancing over, seeing someone reading one of...

    2011 charlesNYC's Grow Thread

hah, no new digs yet, but thanks for the wishes :-D anticipation makes it so so hard for me not to sow my annums, when i know that if i stunt them, i can easily lose a month of growing. pretty sure i finalized that grow list though: - sweet banana peppers. (need something sweet and light...

And so it begins: my (mostly) final list for the superhots: 4x naga morich // PRF 4x habanero - red // burpee 4x 7 pot - white hybrid // JR 4x habanero - white // unknown 4x 7 pot - primo // chris also have two chocolate habaneros and a brain strain being overwintered right now.

pyrethrin (sp?). only thing that's worked on my overwintered plants. sevin/carbaryl did nothing.

Jalapeno Varieties - Best Option for 2010 Grow?

if k-mart stocks their burpee rack with biker billy's, i'll give them a try. im sort of hesitant to grow jalapeƱos when they are so readily available at the grocery store, but hey, homemade pickled jalapeƱo sound interesting.

    2011 charlesNYC's Grow Thread

So last year, I ended up growing six pepper plants in the fire escape and i'm still reaping the rewards into december/january. i haven't bought a single pepper since my plants started producing, but then came december and the cold slaughtered them all. guess i should be thankful for the fact...

    hobbies Gamers here?

I used to be top rated at team pvp in a little mmo called City of Heroes, but they gutted PVP and I left shortly after. Ever since, I spend whatever little gaming time I have making people angry in Team Fortress 2 ("i snipe spy shades liek pro"), or being bad at several other games such Crysis...

seeds woops, too early, seed start

try sowing them without bottom heat. they'll take 2-3 weeks to germinate that way. just be sure to leave enough water to keep the mix moist until you're back.

    seeds starting seeds inside, question

Nice chart AJ, definitely saving that one. It marks my last frost date as being about 2 weeks earlier than I thought. Heh, I'm still not planting outside until the 1st of may, so I'll be starting my chinenses early february, and my tomatoes and annums early march.

    Heaviest Yielding Plants

Orange Habs were definitely productive for me this year. They didn't stop producing until december and definitely outpaced my Ring of Fire cayennes (not growing those until I have space to waste). I just wish Orange habs had a more Reddish taste to them.

seeds when to start my seeds, ILL.

Zone 6B here, I believe; my plan is to start them early February, and early March depending on varieties. The March date includes c. annums and tomatoes. My frost date is April 27th, so I'll most likely be putting my guys out around early may when I move to a new place with (hopefully) a yard...

    Silver Surfer's 2010 Grow

Heh, I'm doing the overwintering thing this weekend. It's kinda crazy that you're already getting frost over there and brooklyn seems to be close but not yet there for the next 10 days. 330 pods: amazing.

    The best Hot Peppers

For hot sauces, I love Bhut Jolokias. For eating raw, Lemon Drops / Aji Limo. I add these to sandwiches. For cooking, I love Ring of Fire cayenne. I've been using it to season curries, and it's pretty good even when raw (I generally go with the powdered kind when making curry). I also grew...
