chinense Are the Jolokia's all the same?

SL, there was an article posted around here a few days/weeks ago about how NSMU Bhuts have some C. Annum genes in it and how that may be the cause of lower productivity as compared to Bih Jolokias. If you accept the hypothesis presented in that article, then Bihs are more Ghost-y than what we...

    container Container/Pot sizes

I use 5 gallon deli buckets. They've worked pretty well so far this season. I've got a habanero in a 3Gal though, and it seems to be producing far more pods than the habanero in a 5Gal, but they're a lot smaller in size.

organic Who uses organic fertilizers and what do you use?

i OD my plants on Scotts Granulated non-organic plant food along with a bit of epsom salt waterings, and it works amazingly well. If you're not set on organic, definitely consider that. Just wanted to mention it since I'm getting such great results off of it.

2010 charlesNYC's Grow Log AKA My Ugly Little Fire Escape

I can't take any more "looking over my garden"-type pictures. The ring of fires have taken over the fire escape. And I've yet to see a single flower drop from this plant. At all. Oh yeah, and here's a Chocolate Hab (left), and a Brain Strain (right):

    hobbies Gaming Machines

If you're really set on a console, an Xbox360 is a good choice. I'm more of a PC-based gamer myself, but there's a lot of things on XBox that I used to love to play. And yeah, Wii games are really lame if you have anything resembling twitch-skills (the sort of reflexes that let you throw out 5...

    Fall's Arrived in NEO

Yeah. Still a week left in August and all of September. In the worst of all cases, I'll end up drying some green cayenne's and a few green habs, which will still be better than the stuff I buy in the local supermarket.

Recommend me a cultivar for stir frying

heh. yeah... you'll get there. i was trying to explain to my girlfriend why I didn't like using habaneros in my chicken curry dishes; the whole "habs are too sweet for the flavor i want, and they have a strong habanero taste" thing. it took a while for her to understand that peppers are not...

    Things I've learned this year.

    1. Using Sevin to kill fungus gnats will stunt seedlings if you use too much. BTi is the way to go. 2. My Sevin sprays during early June 'til early July prevented Pepper gnats. Or so it seems thus far. 3. Planting super small seedlings into big containers works. They grow a lot faster than if I...

Do Purees get hotter as they sit?

It also happens with certain sauces. Sriracha actually gets a lot hotter if you leave it at room temp after opening it. Although I don't know if that's really really safe.

    Quick Simple Rippening Question

would you leave habaneros at room temp after picking, potawie?

health Doing it wrong? All peppers taste like bell with heat.

wait til they cork (exhibit stripes as if they are breaking apart almost) while still green if you're into that. They taste so much better when ripened red though :-P

    EverGreen 7POD

i don't know about your PVP aspirations Judy, but do consider that if you plan on registering stuff, registration is known to backfire. A good example is the Red Savina. Pretty sure that the fact that that variety was plant variety protected resulted in less home gardeners growing it because...

What will you grow next season?

Basically, I'm hoping to get a small yard next year. Still gonna be living in Brooklyn, so space is still gonna be limited, so I'll be doing the 5 gallon container thing again, except this time I'll try to work around making my own soil mix (Pro-Mix + Compost + Sand/Perlite?). So yeah, my...
