overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

I've only lived in rentals, so stuff that 'long term' idea and spending heaps of money on other people's soil :-) edit: And it's a bit to late to do anything about a lawn organically regardless if already established. It's grass on hydrophobic dirt. Choice is to dig it up and redo if already...

Bronies - The scourge of the 21st century?

I'm sick to death of hearing about them. Please don't talk about bronies here.

    Sick Bhut Jolokia help :(

Good point, make sure there's no spots on the leaves or stems, if there is, treat them with a fungacide. If unsure give them a sulfur or copper or copper sulfur etc spray anyway. Anything that has been very wet has a higher chance of getting a fungus or bacteria on it anyway. Also as far as if...

    Plants falling over and dyeing....

If the soil was kept to wet, I agree with the above. Soil fungus eating away at the stem. If the seedling is young, it's always fatal. Though in one case last year I had a 2" high seedling that suffered and I supported it with skewers and it made a compete recovery. I must have caught it in...

Wetting agent isn't bad by itself. It's a neccesity in Perths dirt as the ground is often hydrophobic. IE if you try water a garden or lawn here, you'll just have puddles sitting on the surface sometimes. So I use a wetting agent on my vege patch or lawn a couple of times a year to get the...

    What is this?

It's sooty mold. A fungus that feeds on the aphid's honeydew excreted. No aphids, none of that fungus...

    leaves going brown underneath

It probably is fungus. My fig tree loses all it's leaves to rust and the grape vine as well so plenty of it around in my garden. lancecook, have you got any other type of plants in your garden that suffers from rust, browning or leaf drop? edit: I know that types of rust aren't supposed to...

    leaves going brown underneath

Dunno, but that's what happened to all of my plants. It's either disease or one of the anti aphid treatments I sprayed as my plants were always covered in aphids. Only affected the underside of the leaf whatever it was. It mainly affected the chinenses too, but that's what the aphids went...

LLM's grow log - my first growing attempt

Great start and seedlings look good thanks for the photo of your city. Nice helper too, but if you tell them I said so, they would probably be indifferent about it, so keep it between me and you and not give them that little victory.

Unlike the US, we have nothing decent over here. Nothing comes premixed with perlite or vermiculite, and hardly anything has peat in it. Some of us have used debco, but read a few pages back and gasi had trouble finding it in QLD Bunnings and was told bunnings aren't stocking it anymore? That...

IMHO too much water. All mine not sheltered from the rain are doing that. Well mine aren't that yellow because they have better drainage with perlite etc, but the tips of the leaves are dying off like yours as they were constantly wet. Feel free to jump into the OZ thread too BTW...

I've never seen veinal chlorosis before. I could just be too wet. That osmicote pro seed raising mix doesn't look too good to me. Has coir, wetting agents and wetting crystals! That new leaf growing looks very yellow as well. I wouldn't do anything, especially no watering it for a week or...

A more awesome idea I would like to suggest

Well have you asked your mods? Maybe they would like a lighter work load? Seems despite the no comments rule in the trading forum, every thread gets a ton of comments and there seems to be a resentment between people that carry on and not get stopped/settled (except for a banning that I know...

A more awesome idea I would like to suggest

How about getting some more moderators, particularly ones that tend to be in the trading/growing areas frequently? Might I suggest Armac? Ever since Omri stepped down it's got a lot more feral, and two mods don't seem enough for a site this large.

Any "Game of Thrones" fans here?

I was waiting for it to finish without watching any. I can't stand a week between episodes. I watched the first series over a week, 2-3 episodes a night. Now I'll look up the second series now that it's finished. I was watching the show 'Rome' to pass the time until now. :-) Good timing as I...

Yeah, more chance of 'helmet head' in a potting or seed raising mix than jiffys or coir. In SRM the seedling can pop up between some wood chips and not lose the seed cap while theres more moisture and friction in jiffy peat or coir. One of the reasons why I switched to coir, way less stuck seed...
