    Superhot Concentrate

Best thread ever! Since I know nothing about cooking I started with an experimental batch of concentrate - not with superhots but with what I got. Didn't measure everything or add sugar, just peppers salt and vinegar, then cooked it for a bit. WOW! did the habaneros turn nice and fruity...

Has anyone here grown PEPPADEW peppers?

I was thinking of the volcanic soil thing too. Now that's something that's hard to replicate because even if you lived near Mount St. Helens or something, that doesn't mean you have the same mix of chemicals that a volcano in Italy has. Not to mention the time since the last eruption etc...

    Problems w/ Red Paper Lantern...

Agreed. But sometimes when you're not sure if it's too little of something or too much of something else, the growth tips can give some clues - like being dark, dark green when there's a lot of N in the soil. But yeah, I'd say the pics above look like it could use a booster shot of ferts about now.

Pepper Plants Galore (Dial Up Beware)

Yes, nice rainwater collection. How big is that thing - coupla 100 gallons? Oh, and plants look very happy. You won't be able to see the stakes soon.

    Lettuce Chillie

I never did figure out what was wrong with it. It had fruit but some of them had mushy spots on them. I picked what was healthy looking and got rid of that plant in the fall when it came time to select my breeders.

    banana pepper question

I've had red wax and greeks... those 2 in particular seem to get hotter as they mature past the normal unripe eating stage. Jalapenos taste different red - similar to bell pepper ripening - but I can't tell one way or the other with the heat. I know the chemical change to red is supposed to...

    Another Grow Log 2009

Wow. You've got a serious purple pepper collection. I'm going to have to put the black pearls on my grow list for next year too. Those wax peppers are insane with the big pods on a little plant. Eat some of those bad boys ASAP!

health What's wrong with my Naga ?

When did this start to yellow? Looks like it got pretty big and was healthier at some point? What have you been using and how much water is it getting? If it was my plant, I'd make sure there's nothing wrong with the roots (too wet, fungus, etc), put it in fresh potting soil with a sprinkle of...

    Lettuce Chillie

I had something similar to that last year on one of my jalapenos. I thought it was a deficiency of some kind because of the yellowing between the veins of the leaves. I tried epsom salts but that didn't help. It could be too much of something throwing the nutrient uptake off. The other plants...

    Poor Man's Garden

Careful with the coffee grounds, they're acidic and may upset the pH if used fresh. http://www.gardensalive.com/article.asp?ai=793&bhcd2=1245760155 I use the cheap MG stuff too. (so shoot me!) I find the tomato food is good for young plants and I switch to bloom booster when podding starts...

Pod Shots With Macro Lens 06-23-09

I don't think we're getting tired of those pics! Here's a tip for the new camera: Put it back in the box and mail it to me. :D

    My first pepper plants

I noticed a similar difference between ones I potted up to 1 gal (from 4") and the ones I put in the ground. I think it just takes the larger containered ones longer to get to the limits of their roots. After the roots get done stretching out they should take off in a growth spurt. Mine had to...

    Vegetative mutation

Well in that case, I'm a bit curious what it got crossed with and what the peppers are like. I agree that vigorous healthy crosses are more fun though.

Has anyone here grown PEPPADEW peppers?

So what is it that makes them not grow the same or up to standards elsewhere? Climate? Soil type? Know-how? All of the above?

    Poor Man's Garden

Most household stuff needs to be composted before you add it to the garden. If you live near a farming area and know someone who raises animals, you could ask them for some aged poop. I get free goat poop for the 'price' of cleaning out the shelter. Another free source I use is composted leaves...

to pick or not to pick

It's getting to be that time of summer when pod setting will slow down or stop. I say let them ripen up then strip them all off to get some more growth before the weather turns cooler for the fall.
