    SV's 2010 Garden List

It is very strange Patrick. I have watered them when the heat wilted the plants, every 2-3 days.

    SV's 2010 Garden List

Most all of my peppers have lost their heat. Of all the varieties that are still producing, only the Fatali, 7-Pot, Tabasco and an orange cayenne type have any heat. I think this is due to the heat of summer but I am really not sure. Friday I did some massive pruning, some on top but mostly the...

pests This is what a Leaffooted Bug orgy looks like

They ruin the peppers as far as I am concerned by leaving light colored blotches all over the pods. One application of Permethrin as suggested by Silver Surfer took care of the Leaf Footed bugs and everything else for about 2 months. They are back so I will spray again next weekend.

    Douglah Cappy 2010

How many 7's are you getting on a plant? I have the same seeds from Hippie and I am only getting 5-7 pods per plant so far and the plants look fantastic. I am sure the low production numbers are user error so I need to determine what to do differently next year.

container The End of Container Growing

I have thought the same, but then I look at Surfer's plants and tell myself to try again next year but use the potting mix recipe he suggested. It would be nice to just cut the plants down and move the bucket into the garage for the winter.

    I hate meeces to pieces

Peanut butter is definitely my bait of choice for mice...sticky traps work great too, especially with a dab of PB in the middle. Head shots with a .22 loaded with CB shorts, fried squirrels are yummy! :D The big males go to the dog, the young ones go to the freezer.

I am sure ya'll are tired of the same old photo but I am posting this shot to show the scale of the Tabasco, Orange Scotch Bonnet, Fatali and 7-Pod in the background. I propped my fat lazy Lab in the photo for scale, and he is big!

    SV's 2010 Garden List

I went through my seeds tonight to bag some for trade and I don't have any labeled De Arbol or Hot Banana...okay by me, they have a good flavor and they are hot too.

    harvesting 1st Major Harvest - 2010

I like the Bulgarian Carrot, I have eaten a few off the plant and I can savor the flavor before the heat. My single poor plant is almost completely shaded by other plants but still producing a few pods.

Plain old Orange (Red IMHO) Habanero seeds for SASE

And you are probably wondering why this crazy redneck would be offering something so bland as run of the mill, bought from the local nursery Habanero pepper seeds. I will tell you why, six freaking plants are whipping my ass every week, these plants are on OVERDRIVE, the pods are tasty, well...

It could be although I don't remember receiving De Arbol seeds.

    SV's 2010 Garden List

I am seeing some pods on a few of the mystery peppers now, the unknown is actually cool :D I cut some Yaupon stakes a few days ago that are 3/4"-1" in diameter and 4'-5' long. I staked up all of the peppers because the older plant are shading the late starters and I am glad I did, we have a...

    SV's 2010 Garden List

Homegrown purple onions, sliced baby carrots, garlic, black peppercorns and Allspice. Last night I made a batch of Rasberry Habanero jam, I was conservative with the heat but it tastes good. Next time I will double the Hab's, I want more than a tingle, I want a bite!

    SV's 2010 Garden List

The six Orange Habanero's plants are still in overdrive, they were labeled orange but they are definitely red. The Tabasco is full with pods but they are slow to ripen, same with the Bulgarian Carrot, Fatali and T. Scorpion. The Orange Scotch Bonnet is producing plenty of pods so everyone that...

harvesting How do I harvest a Tabasco?

I have plenty of small scissors in the house so I will use them on the Tabasco. Fortunately I have not had the issue with any other plants....thanks!

harvesting How do I harvest a Tabasco?

Don't laugh, I am serious :D I tried bending the stem near the base of a yellow pod and it didn't snap so I pulled on it and snapped end of the plant off. I thought it was due to the pods not being ripe so waited until a few turned red. Same deal, they don't snap off like other peppers.
