    SV's 2010 Garden List

I thought I should update my grow log rather than open a new thread, I believe that is everyone’s preference anyhow. The raised bed plants just exploded with the heat and the addition of soaker hoses in lieu of irrigating. My spinach crop was outstanding and I plan to cut back both spinach and...

    media Burpee Pellets?

I used them and my only suggestion is to make sure they are very moist when you pot up, if the mix is dry it will fall completely off the roots when you extract it from the cup leaving you a great view of the root system.

chinense Confused, so 7 Pot Brain Strain is hotter than the Bhut Jolokia?

I think I have one of each in the garden right now, time will tell if they produce some pods. So why are Bhut's advertised as the worlds hottest pepper if they are not?

chinense Confused, so 7 Pot Brain Strain is hotter than the Bhut Jolokia?

I was reading the 7 Pot tread on the growing forum and some are saying there is no comparing the heat of the 7 Pot to the Bhut, Naga or Fatali. Is this true?

    health What's wrong!!!!

Cool, because I transplanted a bunch of peppers from little dixie cups to 1-5 gallon pots but I did my best to keep the soil undisturbed.......SV

    health What's wrong!!!!

Explain this please, assuming a person does not break up the soil around the root. And, this completely contradicts what others have said about sprouting multiple seeds in small dixie cups and then separating them after they have sprouted. How is transplanting a seedling into a two gallon...

    My Patio garden Exterminator

That looks like a sub-species of Polychrotidae or "Anole". Possibly Cuban or maybe even Caribbean and typically used to strip the berries/fruit from invasive shrub like plants to prevent seeding and subsequently new growth.

SV1000's Pepper Update with Pic's...comments welcome!

I just found this photo from last year taken on 4/19 and planted around 3/14, I planted around 3/21 this year, about two weeks difference in growing time. Last year it was a garden mix and horse compost, this year I did raise the beds 10" and re-filled them with garden mix and mushroom compost...

SV1000's Pepper Update with Pic's...comments welcome!

Tabasco, Hot Cherry and Lumbre with spinach and cuc’s at the very top. Yellow 7 Pot, for sure, the others are on the very hot side but I completely forgot what varieties. All of these germinated later than the peppers in the photo above and they are a little pale. I have not supplemented the...

SV1000's Pepper Update with Pic's...comments welcome!

Here is a picture update for anyone interested. Comments and suggestions are more than welcome. I went home for lunch and checked on the seeds, looks like the Manzano’s are starting to wake up! I know it’s hard to see the root against the paper towel but I am not using Photoshop at work for...

seeds How the hell can you put a seedling out too soon?

There is no question in my mind if peppers are grown in an area where they do not normally grow and thrive adjustments need to be made to prevent freezing them. I understand now that people are referring to hardening off plants that were grown under lights and well established (multiple to...

seeds How the hell can you put a seedling out too soon?

That makes sense and probably what everyone is referring too; I hardened off my seedlings that were 1"-2" tall by putting them out at lunch time. I was thinking about putting peppers outside as soon as the seedling breaks dirt, and exactly what I will do with all my recently germinated seeds.
