fermenting I'm on the superhot mash train

I would give it a light shake or spin to move it around, but like SS said, I would take the top off. Even is the spoon is sterile, the air isn't. I had a jar bubble like that one is, and I put it in the fridge to slow it down a bit so it doesn't rise up too much. It will still ferment but a...

    Freeze vs frost?

It got down to about 33 here. Moved some of the prize plants in that I want to keep, but no way I could move all 120. Looks like they made it through alright though. Warming up the next week or so, so hopefully can get the ones on there now to ripen. jacob

    Transplanting plants

I transplant up when the second set of true leaves are forming. From your pics, you may have another week before they are ready. You can also wait a bit longer, like when the second set is nearly full size. Hope that helps! jacob

    College Football Thread

The argument can be made for Oregon for #1 though. They are just killing everyone right now. Auburn is coming on strong right now and are undefeated, but got lucky 3 games in a row to stay that way. They could have just as easily lost the Kentucky, Clemson and S. Carolina games. Still a...

vendor does anyone know what happened to Sterling Kaiser??

I have never ordered from him, but have traded with him once. Taking 3 weeks to get something does happen. Hell, it took nearly 3 weeks for a package of seeds I sent to Atlanta to arrive. I can drive there in about 2 hours. The inexcusable part is not responding to attempts to find...

    fermenting Fermented Habanero-Manzano Mash

Not sure of how the OP does it, but after sitting for nearly 2 months or longer fermenting all the "solids" are not so solid anymore. I put in a blender and blend then cook down to the consistancy I want. Doing it this way gives me a consistancy I have never been able to obtain making a...

    Trinidad Scorps and 7 Pods?

I have bought from them before. Never a problem getting my stuff even though it comes from Spain. Great selection and good prices. The Red Fatalii turned out to be a bright yellow fatalii instead, but 1 wrong out of maybe 15 I got from them isn't too bad.

fermenting I'm on the superhot mash train

That looks normal to me. All my batches did the same. Just the water seperating out and taking some colors from the mash. You have some good bubbling going on and should be ready in no time. jacob

fermenting I'm on the superhot mash train

If you are getting bubbles you might be ok with the dark liquid. When my mash was finished the liquid was dark and all the solids had settled on the bottom. I have a pic of it in my thread. Also could be the colors from the ingredients blending. Any way for a pic so we can see what you are...

fermenting I'm on the superhot mash train

I know you are on the other side of the world and all, but it is still sounds strange to hear "summer" and "christmas" in the same sentence. It should be ready by then though. jacob

    WayRight's 2ten start

Hey Kevin, you could try to cut it back severely on top and roots similar to how they do the bonchis. That will reduce the space needed then use a little portable light with the CFL bulb in it for the winter. That is such a beautiful plant to let die without a single flower. jacob

fermenting I'm on the superhot mash train

Good luck with the mash. I think you will be hooked on this method if it comes out good. That should be a real fruity sauce. Let us know how it all turns out. I ca't tell from the pic, but is there a top on the jar at all. I would try to cover up the opening if possible to avoid any mold...

    T Scorp Retards

yeah, a scorp that looks like a hab isn't too interesting to photograph. I think I got stingers on maybe 80% of my scorpions this year, rest had a more hab shape but taste and heat were all scorpion. jacob

Finally time to prepare the front garden

Beds look great, MM. Question though. How close together are those beds? Looks like a tight fit inbetween when the plants grow up. At least for me. ;) I hope you have a great season and keep up posted. Our season is ending fast here in the states and we need you Aussies to give up...

    fermenting Jacob's Pepper Mash

I add about 1 tbsp, which is about 15ml I believe. Less will probably still work, just take a little longer to start working. jacob
